Well, I had a brand new experience today. Went to a chinese restaurant, and there was a little purple octopus on my plate!!!!

I contemplated whether to eat it or not, and decided how many times will I get the chance so I went for it!!!!

It didn't taste bad, really didn't have a taste at all, but the whole thing was a bid chewy, and the beak was like eating a shell on a sunflower, so the difference in texture was a little disconcerting.

You might check with OkCarla - she sells hatching eggs from bantam ameraucanas and is close to OKC.

Did you get the security tightened on your pens to your satisfaction?

Nope, probably will never have it the way i want. I need a dog, but i barely have time for chickens

So here are the latest additions:

These two were the first to hatch.

Now I am up to seven bouncing baby Buckeyes. These are the first chickens I have ever hatched and they are from our own birds. I wanted to get a little experience with hatching before shelling out any money on buying eggs. I am upgrading to a Brinsea (Small scale to you guys with the cabinets, I know, but I don't need to hatch that many eggs. Notice I said need, not want.) and am hoping to perfect the process. I need to be prepared for spring hatching. Very important time...lots of pressure...must be ready...

How is everyone this evening.

Elwood & Jeannie, it isn't fair that you know the secret title & we don't get to share the laugh!!!

haleyluna I have the same trouble on the weekends! Lately I have been missing out with the kids having activities!

You mean you are not working on the house tonight Sooner! Its hard not to isn't it? Always something to be done.

I know that there are Buckeye bantams, but I've never seen any myself. From what I've heard there isn't much true Buckeye blood in them, but they have a good resemblance.

Roll call again?

Wish I was lurking instead of working but it doesn't pay very well.

Welcome to all of the new folks on here, this is truely a great group of folks to have about.

Cuban if you could secure the birds and wait till Dec. 1st those predators are worth just a bit. About dark use a wounded rabbit call and those Coyotes will come running like you set up a buffet. Find your local fur buyer and sell them to help with feed or security.

When I was in school I ran a trap line and called in Coyotes and could make more in one month then six months of working fast food. But that was when min. wage was like 3.25 an hour.

Clipping flight feathers... Spread the wing of the bird. The feathers closest to the tip are the primarys and are longer then the others which are called the secondarys. Cut the primarys to the same length as the secondarys on one wing only. They will still be able to get off the ground somewhat but the shortened feathers will make them fly in an arc and turn away from the fence they are trying to fly over.

Yes I worked on the house after I got off work. The floor stain didn't take very good (or not like I wanted) so I applied a second coat & color. I am hoping it is more to my liking when I clean it tomorrow.

I also worked with my chickens and will have more to do tomorrow night.
