Just landed...left the door open for a few so my "pooped"
backside could make it in. All has gone well and we don't
have to see the Dr. for a month and can do that at his local
office.

Coturnix (Pharoah) Quail - about six years ago we ordered
a couple hundred eggs from Bear Bayou down in south
Texas. They hatched like crazy. He sent us instructions, etc.
If you keep them in a "brooder type" setting and keep them
in the dark for about six weeks, we used 7.5 watt blue or
red bulbs, you can raise some good eating in about 6 weeks....
birds weighed about 8 oz. The point being, if you keep them
in the dark, they continue to grow and don't mature sexually.
The few that we let mature started laying their own eggs at
about 8 weeks.....and here we went again. We had the
whites and the browns.

The meat is a little darker than a bobwhite quail, but is
jucier. So, if you like chicken thighs, you'll love it ! Back then.....
.....when we decided to get out of the birds and go to the
lake.............we sent all of what we had left to a guy that
Bill has known and, ...since we seem to be back in "this"....
he called him the other day and we're supposed to go out and
get a mess of them and get back into it......for a while
anyway.....at least long enough for me to get quail breasts
in my quart jars and run through the pressure canner.

And, have wondered.....how many of you gals/guys do the
home canning? I've been involved for several years on a
couple of forums of people that do this. My bunch is so
spoiled, they won't eat much of anything "up town"....LOL
No, I don't do anything the "old way". Everything is
done according to the latest USDA guidelines, but you can
sure save a ton of money, and you aren't eating all those
chemicals................

Anyway, just wondered........................

Yup, watching the weather here, too. We have a local
show tomorrow morning....we'll see.....Na'Na would rather
sleep............

Have a good one !

We will be thinking of you girl! and hold strong...get a 'bator from the good people not from being bad

Doubleostud - that was several hours age! It is worse!

Still coming down and what is already down keeps getting reused! We do that with our snow out here...it gets blown here and then there
