Okies in the BYC The Original

Home from Fletcher and had a good time eating, visiting, bidding, eating......

No doubt in my mind, both Poco and Peaches are wonderful pie makers. Homemade crust and the filling was incredible. I have heard it said that pecan pie has as many calories as cheesecake and after eating a slice of Poco's very rich pecan pie I am confident that information is correct. I liked the way Peaches added pecans to her pumpkin pie - the best of both flavors.

Al, we missed you but I certainly understand why you were unable to be there.

It was fun to visit with Jer-Man, Michael Daugherty, Poco, Buster Barn Swallow and Peaches. Partywyn - I knew that I would bid on something before it was all over, but I am still glad you encouraged me to bid on the extra pumpkin pie that Peaches made.

There were two NN hens that I didn't see before the auction began. Thanks Peaches for letting me win the bid for them - even though you didn't let me get them cheaply.

Stimp - I sent you my email address. It was rewarding to donate toys last year to the Marine's Christmas party held in San Diego and I want to participate again this year. With the ability to have Amazon ship things directly, it was easy to participate.

Morning, Okies!

I made it back from Fletcher at about 11:15. By the time I put my new birds up it was almost one o'clock. Just checked and they all seem fine. They've all found their feeders and didn't seem to notice they were in a new place.

BarnSwallow - great to see you. Wish I could have brought Victoria along to visit.
P&B - we'll need to talk bees some day soon. I need advice on placement for a hive, but DH is still trying to figure out where to plant the first pecans.
Kwartel - I'm so sorry you weren't feeling well. If you want to ride with me to Shawnee, the seat is yours.
Buster - Good to finally meet you. Your dark Cornish fellow has put some vigor and size into my meat flock.
Peaches - excellent meal! Your spread was wonderful. You had some quality birds last night. I'm glad I didn't miss out on the white Ameraucanas. They are truly lovely birds.
Michael - good to be able to put a face with your name. You're the most active bidder I've ever seen. Thanks for talking with me. Tell your daughter she made a really good trade for the duck blind.
Partywyn - thanks for all your help. You kept things going, and sometimes I'd have sworn you were in three places at once.
Jerman - good to see you again. If you're going to Shawnee, I may see you there.

I won't be able to take pictures of my new birds until this evening, but here's a teaser: trio of silver duckwing oegb, penny hatch hen, two white Ameraucanas hens, black Ameraucanas rooster, Dominique rooster, and three game hens I'm going to have to search the Internet to identify.

I'd better get breakfast started so we won't be late for church. Take care, everyone. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Morning everyone! 'Nother lovely day up here in Stillwater, picking horse stalls, cleaning the chicken coop and washing horse blankets before the cold snap. I can't believe we're going to drop from 70's to 40's in a 24 hr period. That's just wrong on sooooo many levels.

I told my husband about the APA Nationals in Shawnee in Dec. HAH, looks like it'll just be me going....I said, "It will be nice to talk to some folks who know something about what these chickens are really supposed to look like and get a little educated.". His response was, "They are birds. They look like birds. They have feathers and they're noisy.". ROFL I'm thinkin' perhaps he's not quite as enamoured of the chickies as I might be...

He likes 'em ok, and he likes the eggs they lay. As far as actually enjoying their company, I don't think he's as into them as I am, so if he wants to sit the show out he can. He knows he's certainly welcome to come along, but I won't push it. He puts up with my horse shows pretty well, I don't want to overwhelm him with a chicken show.

I have been inside, continuing to recover from the flu and researching ways to cover up the ugly dining room wallpaper that is the bane of my existence. I have enjoyed that I haven't needed to build a fire. I wasn't sure if that was due to the warmer weather or just my fever, tho.
