We started out with Cochins because they were a gentle bird for DD to start showing & it has really snowballed from there. My cochins have been broody for the most part, I have a bantam that wants to be a momma so bad she went broody twice last summer. The last hatch I had was under a cochin, she has 18 or 19 babies, I swear the little buggers hide so I never can get a true count.

Color on Cochins would be black or partridge.

Thank you Betsy. Thankfully my mom is relatively young compared to Tom (20 year age difference), so I'm not at the point of taking care of her so much. She has perforated eardrums due to chronic ear infections that she never had looked at because she was too busy taking care of other people. The doctors seem to think her ears will heal with time, but meanwhile it is very difficult because she can't understand what anyone says the first time, and with Tom's current condition, it's important that another person be at doctor's appointments, etc. to hear for her. Plus she can't hear Tom when he needs her help, can't hear the phone ring, etc. Tom and I were laughing today that it is convenient that she can't hear when we want to talk about her!

Donnie - I'm jealous that you got to see Sooner's house!

Kaussandra! You go with the chickens in town - I had mine for two years and my neighbors across the street never knew they were there until I told her. I think it's a good idea to get a few meaties - depending on what you order, you can butcher them at 6 weeks or so, so you don't have to keep them very long...although they'll eat everything in sight and grow right before your eyes during that 6 weeks!

Sorry to hear you are under the weather. So a cat was driving by your fenceline? Gotta love typos. Mine usually get me in trouble. Typos not cats, I don't own any cats.
I have not had much trouble with regular cats but the bigger ones named Bob have done some damage.
Don't know why they go after the buff ones, maybe because they already have that golden roasted color.
Michael told me he might have a rooster for you but I stiil don't know what kind you are wanting.

Hey look ya'll - Monty needs a cat!

Careful - I LOVE my chickens and my dog is a wonderful, smart and loyal companion but ...... I'll go ahead and say it ..... CATS RULE!

Monty you wanted life & I think we have some, where did you run off to???

City you can come see me anytime!!! I even have an extra paint brush!

Carah, a NE OK POOPS at your new house would be wonderful! Sign me up!!

We have a darling young dog and one cat, as well as the chickens and guineas, but so far, we both DO prefer cats. We've had some really good ones. Don't know what we'd do without 'em in the country for keeping mice and snakes away from the house, as well as cutting down on the mole/vole population.

Our young Shiloh, whom we adopted from the Broken Arrow Animal Shelter just a few minutes before her time was up, is a wonderful addition to our home place. She's about 5 1/2 months old now, and is very smart and teachable. She's a German Shepherd mix (our SIL thinks the other half is Golden Retriever because she has webbed feet) and is really pretty as well.

Betsy you are on the list, let me get my house done & we will see if the weather will let us all get together! I would love to see my chicken friends.

I lost my long time kitty companion of 17 years in November - so now I have just one cat, and a Titus the Wonderpup. And 16 chickens.

Betsy - is your older dog still with you? I'm glad Shiloh is working out to be a good addition to your family.

Our littlest cat, and only female, Shuggy, beat up a big husky that was fighting with our dog. Our dog is the only animal she likes. I stepped on the dog's tail accidentally recently and Shuggy came running like she was going to wup up on me. She is a himilayan/calico mix. I wonder if that has something to do with her ferocity? She also is very sweet to the people she likes, the loudest purr I have ever heard and she starts purring as soon as she sees you. I don't plan on introducing her to any chickens.

Sorry about your kitty City, I don't think I got a chance to tell you that when you lost him.

I lost both of my dad's dogs real close together, it was rough. I only have two now & Buster is to hyper to take riding around anymore so I don't get to do that & he likes to eat chickens so he doesn't get to get out as much.
