Shelly - I see from your signature line that you too have been caught by the NN "want to have them" bug. Are you looking only for pullets or are you also in need of a rooster? Are you looking for particular colors?

We are having to start over, so we are looking for pullets and a roo or two. Ian had a gorgeous hen he showed for 4H, won reserve grand with her, but unfortunately she tried to swim a few days before the State Fair.

That was rough. When I found her, I felt like I had been punched in the stomach! She was such a Diva! That is the only breed he is interested in, now! Delilah was black, but I think he is open to any color.

I am still trying to figure out if I am going, or not. For some reason they aren't releasing the boys' basketball schedules!

But, I know my neighbor is going and is willing to transport some birds for me. What are you looking to get rid of?

Shelly

Oh, I'm very much into the birds. Never stopped. Just streamlined everything into only practical stuff (meat and eggs, basically). I just didn't think I would be participating in our chats here quite as much due to all the irons in the fire.

And I haven't. Sometimes its days before I even look at the board, and then I rarely read back posts. It isn't cause I don't love y'all. Just busy busy.

Hi Okies...got a question. I have a pullet about 6 months old and another about 4.5...Gerty and Punkin. Gerty was supposed to be a Copper Maran. She has a few feathers on her legs, kind of a splash pattern where some dark blue and black spots (very few) break up her blue/grey cloring. Anyway, Punkin is for sure an EE and a big baby that HAS to have all of the attention. Gerty didnt like Punkin at 1st, but yesterday I caught Gerty sitting on Punkin...like Punkin was a really large day old chick. Now Punkin has regressed to baby mode and will push herself under Gerty. When Punkin does this Gerty fluffs up and squats on her. Is this a sign that I may be in for an egg soon? And any help on Gerty's breed would be awesome too

She looks like an ee to me.And a very pretty on to!! The younger chick is just taking up with an older hen and the hen is nice enough to have her mothering in stinks come out. She will pro ably make an awesome broody hen. She looks at point to lay but with winter she may be late.

We have had snow all day! It's melted as fast sa it's fell so no accumulation. But the temp is dropping so the ground is starting to get white. Did get four eggs today,

Well the auction went great yesterday! Things went very well our holiday ham basket full of christmas goodies went to one of our first time customers! Things sold rather well last night. Rooster sold for around $6- $8. Hens went for $8-15 rabbits went for $3-$15 everything sold rather well. Thankful to everyone who has supported us throughout this year. You guys have truly made it wonderful. Happy Holidays all and we look forward to seeing everyone at our next auction Jan. 15!!!

Everyone must be really busy today - slow thread.
I had a rite-of-chicken-passage today; had to wash my little Mottled Cochin cockerel's butt. He had a MESS of feathers and Poop.
Poor guy, he hadn't been his loud little self the last two days. He usually crows, still squeekily because he is only 9 weeks old, at all hours, even at night!
He didn't mind the bath and seemed to like being bundled in a towel. He is back to himself tonight.

Yes, you have now done what many of us have done - all the while looking over a shoulder to see if anyone is watching as you actually bathe a chicken

The first time I had to do that, I had purchased some adult white silkies at an auction and they could hardly walk for the mud balls on their feet. They were so pretty after they had been bathed and dryed in a towel and with a blow dryer. That was many years ago and I have since learned ways to "spot clean" chickens - like just soaking the caked on area in warm water instead of getting the entire chicken wet - but those that show chickens regularly give thm a bath - or so I understand. It is sort of fun.

I chopped wood and now I feel like someone hit me in a truck.

Our wood burning stove can only take cords about 16-17 inches long, My dear dad, chops his wood at 20-25 inches, so I gather and chop my own, (we share ten acres with him, 10 miles southeast of Muskogee OK.) We still have trees on the ground from the big ice storm from four years ago.

sat in robin's new coop (artsyrobin) watched the easter eggers we have come in and start nesting in the new boxes. I am so happy they are using the new boxes, I am just sitting here beside myself.

I'll be bathing 7 silkies for the Shawnee show this week. A friend has to bathe at least 22! She has it down to a science, though.

Coops, I'm glad you aren't "chopping" wood, that is some serious work! LOL at you having two!!

Evening everyone!

I have had a long day, after going to church & then going to see grandma & fixing her meds I came home to paint. I only got the bathroom & one kids room. All that I have left is the laundry room & DD's room. Note to anyone painting, dark colors take two coats. I am not looking forward to DD's room, it is a bright pink & teal blue!
