I must say that I am also very found of those chickens that are kinda a toasty color with a little bit of spices on them...although those fried ones are so good with taters...and those pre-chicken colors all fried up in bacon grease!

here is another pic (OMG i know how to do it now be warned)

I would say Welsummer but that might offend my Marans and they would be squaking and then my Golden Campines would get word of it and be mifffed.
Soon the games would hear about it and start a big fight and the Turkens would just say well it hurts but it ain't no skin off of my neck but the Orpingtons, they are snooty anyway with their British background and all and then the Hamburgs well they know there place just from the pen they are in.
So I guess I better not say because the mutts are too nosy and word my get back to the others.
Didi I answer your question. I am confused.

Funny story - a girl at cosby's ranch feed store in mustang actually tried to convince me bantam was a breed..... yes.... seriously..... It was after that visit I decided I was not going back.... even if I have coupons for free chics

Yes I think she was totally serious. The girl was clueless. I asked her what breeds they had and she said "black links, buffs, the ones that lay green eggs and I don't remember the rest...." I seriously walked out and decided I was not going back. She was too afraid to say sexlink.... buff is a color not a breed, and she also told me when I asked if they got any feather footers that I would have to go to a fancy breeder to get those cause a hatchery doesn't carry them.

I must have talked to the same girl when I was there asking to buy some game bird starter for my baby turkeys. She said they didn't carry it. I asked what they were feeding their baby turkeys and she said the regular chick starter. I told her baby turkeys need much higher protein than regular chick starter and she said their turkeys were doing just fine on it. Anyway, a week later I go back to buy some egg layer crumbles and chick starter for my chickens and ask a guy there and he said yes, they do carry game bird starter and she was just unaware of it.

Oh well, I do like their feed (Purina) so I'll keep going back, just because it's a little cheaper than the Tuttle feed store's prices & they don't carry Purina. I like the Flock Raiser that Purina has ... it's a chick starter with 20% protein in it and the chicks grow much faster on it than regular 16% protein chick starter ... and they sell it for the same price ... $12.49 for a 50 lb. bag.

okcarla - I'm not sure I trust their feed, they don't carry unmed chic starter, they had flock raiser w/ meds in it ....... I'd check the ingrediants label on every bag I took out of there. On an earlier visit I asked if they had grogel or other stuff with probiotics in it. The girl took me to the antibiotics and I had to explain the difference to her.....

another interesting thing is they got their chics on a friday, I went in there sunday morning, first thing and they shut the door to their back room and wouldn't let us see the chics. They said they were cleaning the brooders....... It was right at opening, so my first thought was they had just gotten there and found a bunch dead. The heat lamps looked awfully high from what I could see before the guy basically shut the door in my face.

GOOD GRIEF, I miss a few days and WOW I had a lot of reading to do. I hope that everyone is doing well.

We have at least 10 inches of snow and it is coming down like crazy. I cannot remember a snow storm so bad in years. It is beautiful. I wish we would have actually believed what the news said and brought some wood to the porch. All of our wood is wet and our power keeps going on and off. If the snow comes down much more we will be w/o power and because of the hilly terrain we will be stuck. OH MAN I having Dec 2008 flashbacks.

I really want to go to POOPS. With nursing school and work I have been so stressed out and we need a little down time as a family. I wonder how the weather is going to be?

If I went and brought a few of my roosters that will be 8-10 weeks then would anyone want the? I cannot tell you what breeds they are going to be because right now I don't even know how many roosters I have. Did anyone find the waiting to sex them excruciating?

God bless those who are sick and be safe.
