Sonya looks like your going to need a 2nd incubator, and you'll have the hatching bug for sure now.

Sounds like you and your girls had a blast.

Man! Sounds like everyone had a great time! Hopefully I can make it next time.

Maybe by then I'll have something to trade/sell, too!

Is this a yearly or twice a year thing? A fall meetup might be nice...hint hint! LOL! Except that it falls during football season and I have 2 boys that live for football season.

Can't wait to read more people's experiences. What was the final tally for the meetup?

Poultryandbees - thanks so much for the DE. Let me know the total cost, including tax. I can either send Check, MO, or Paypal. Just let me know!

Cityclucks - can't wait to meet you this week! Thanks so much for bringing the DE home with you!

Sorry to hear that ya'll had so much damage while you were at POOPS yesterday. I enjoyed visiting with ya'll and learned alot while listening to you and Stimpy discuss incubators, computer operating systems and such.

Sonya, have you candled the eggs that are in the incubator? If they've been in there for a week, you should be able to take a really bright flashlight & shine it on the eggs to see development, if only seeing the air sack (bubble) on top and then the darker color of an embryo growing. I have a mini maglight flashlight with led bulb in it that I use for candling and it works really well. If an egg isn't developing after a week in the incubator, it will have a yellow glow to it and no sign of blood vessels and I toss those. Hopefully you can get enough room in the incubator to add those eggs. I hate to try incubating anything over 10 days from being laid because hatchability decreases so much, and it's better if they're less than a week from being laid.

Chiclooker, I hope the storms hurry and pass over with no more damage. We are definitely heading into tornado season now.

Hey everybody ... I'm a Golden Feather Member now!!!! WOO HOO!!!!

Congratulations on becoming a Golden Feather Member. You probably receive a gazillion PMs on this board and will enjoy the extra message space.

Hi,

Just found this thread today. There are just SO many threads (and so little time)! We're in the Lawton area and just got started with chickens in January (from Country Hatchery). We keep finding "just one more" at Atwood's (last time it was three little girls being pecked, two bleeding quite a bit), and hatched out a couple of eggs from a local family this past week. Now we're itching to hatch more. Only problem is, what do you do when you're out of room for chickens?

It's nice to "meet" all of you and I see there are even a few other members in this area.

When you run out of room for the chickens ... you do like me ... downsize!

Ok, everyone that knows me realizes it's impossible.

You can always upgrade by taking your least favorite birds to a swap or auction and then add some that you find more interesting. I do that all the time! Now I'm to the point of hatching many of my favorites and selling eggs & birds to enable others to enjoy them!

Speaking of auctions, the next Cement auction will be next week, May 2nd!!!!!!!! It's in your neck o'the woods! You should go and meet some of us Okies auction addicts there!

MOS- What a wonderful way to spend time! We really enjoyed visiting with everyone

We weren't sure what to expect from POOPS. It sounded pretty strange at first but we had so much fun and learned so much about poultry {

} Yes, I named all the peeps but they all had reasons. None of the names are arbitrary. Merengue is fluffy, pale yellow with brown patches{EE}. She doesn't just fly out of the tub, she flys onto Strays arm and perches there over and over! Tupy is the black silkie with the attitude that says he/she is bigger than anything else[one tough puppy!} Velcro{silkie} was sticking to Snap{EE} which is another kind of closure. Sienna is dark brownish red{EE}, Cayenne is orange-red and really catches those bugs{EE}. Sunder reminded me of a thunderstorm{silkie} I'm very fond of them already but I think Velcro is my favorite. She/he fell asleep in my hands trying to get warm. We finally got the heat lamp on to keep their temp up. Most of all the names are gender neutral. On to learning how to keep peeps alive without hens! Never had to do that before.

Everyone who participated in setting up POOPS should be applauded

. The turn out for a first gathering was great. We would like to rent a cabin for the whole weekend next time and stray will probably bring some chickens to "share".
Thank You to everyone who made this event possible. We are willing to help in anyway we can to make a fall POOPS possible.
