The Exotic Auction at Prague is a two day auction, they will have a poultry check in and sale on the Friday where you can sell stuff in cages for a set price or if they don't sell Friday they will go into the sale ring on Satuday, and then they sell everything there from Antalopes to Zebras, you just never know what you will see. It is a lot of fun, we used to go a lot when we raised Pygmy Goats but have not been in a while, I know the people that run it, they have a Wild Animal Presearve in Pawnee, really good people, If you want to but poultry thogh you need to get there early on Friday morning and see them when they unload because there are a lot of buyers and they jump on them quick, you have to sell the cage with the poultry if you take something to sell, so make sure you don't take something you want to keep, no cardboard boxes!!! They sell miscillanious stuff also like wire and cages and such if people have them to sell. Lynn

Hello again, boy that nap sure did me good. Except I do not feel like doing anything now. Yep P&B that is the weekend. Lynn was asking me when the next Blanchard auction was. I think he wants to go. Not sure, may go to Jones since it is so close.

I would like to go to the exotic one just to see things.

The fun part about the exotic auction in Prague is the variety of things you do see. There is a reason they charge $5 per day admission. We have seen buffalo, exotic horned sheep, and zebras, in addition to some small foxes, snakes and strange looking reptiles.

Lynn is correct in saying that if you really want something, the time to go is early Friday morning when the birds and rabbits are being sold in the alley behind the sale barn, for a fixed price. That is also the best time to find reasonably priced cages. A little later on Friday, someone has bought all the cages that were priced cheap and then resells them on Saturday when they auction off the equipment and misc. such.

If you want the auction bargains on poultry and rabbits, those are when they sell the stuff through the ring on Saturday. Of course, it may sell for more or less than you could have purchased it at the fixed price on Friday. The things I have bought in the auction went for less than the fixed price on the cage.

Since the cage sells with the poultry and rabbits, there are some creative cages. The rule is that there has to be food and water available inside the cage and cardboard boxes (except for baby chicks) are not allowed. I have seen milk crates with straw in the bottom and a wire screen on top and tin cans wired to the inside corners, used as cages. Old, cracked pet carriers are also a favorite cage.

The next exotic animal auction in Prague is May 15/16. The sale starts at 11:00 on Friday and at 10:00 on Saturday. The poultry and equipment is auctioned off on Saturday.

I would think you would need a small loan to get one of them stripped beasts.

P&B when will you have some honey for sale? I just love that honey you gave me last year. I still have plenty left since I have it hidden and am the only one that even knows it is in the house.

If the quail or pheasant are native to Oklahoma, such as Bobwhite quail or ringneck pheasant or wild turkeys, you need a Non-Commercial breeder's license to have them for your own use. The Dept of Wildlife issues the license and when I had one a few years ago, I just paid my fee and they came out and inspected the area where I planned to have the bobwhite quail and wild turkeys.

If you have a non-native breed of quail, such as the Coternix/Pharoah, A&M or Arkansas Reds, or have pheasants other than ringneck pheasants, you do not need a license.

If you have fallow deer (not native to Oklahoma), no license is needed. If you keep white tailed deer, a license is needed.

If you are selling or bartering the native species, you need a Commercial Breeder's license, which is just a little bit more expensive than the Non-Commercial breeder's license, but has more extensive requirements on your shelter and feeding requirements (if my memory is correct)

I have never had enough honey from my own hives to sell, so I just buy a case at a time from George's Apiary in Noble. That is what I brought you when I got the polish from you last year. I just bought another case last Friday, so let me know when you want some more. (that was also the honey that I had on the silent auction table at POOPS)

Them critters fall right in line with them snakes. Speaking of which when we got home last night had to close up the birds I know bad bad bad but doesnt happen often. Anyway I made Lynn go out there with me in case there was a critter out there lurking. If there would have been he would have found my cold dead body out there. I do not do confrontation with furry things real well.
