Thanks country... never thought about it...just plain dry skin. She is such a sweeti and I think she may be quite old... but she's got a home here with her hubby forever! I entered him in the blue chicken contest. He still looks a little scruffy, but oh soo much better than he did when I brought him home. I think he's just plain handsome, and it's a scream to watch him herd buff orpington hens 5X his size. They fight him, but then he sticks to his guns....does his little dance, and they have to conform!

The molting is a nightmare... I told the guys in chat the other day hens are the spawn of satan. In the afternoons they group up, stand on one leg, puff out their feathers and glare at one another daring someone to do the wrong thing. Then all hell breaks loose... I say it's like PMS and there is no chicken equivelant of chocolate! I have beefed up their food with kitten chow for protien and have been giving them pumkins, watermelons etc... just to keep them busy and off each others backs. We had a really good cold snap last week and that did NOT help. Poor girls. How long does it last for them? Well gotta go...See ya'all

To all returning and newbies...to the world's best chicken forum!!!

Ernest, your silkies look like they are VERY HAPPY! They're beautiful. Your baby ducks are cute as can be too with their little hats ... I think they're the prettiest ducks I've ever seen! Gerald and I are seriously thinking of going to the next Chupps auction, this coming Saturday, November 1st. Are you still interested in a turkey, or did all yours go in the freezer?

Cammie, I'm glad your two chickies survived their baths. I bet they feel better now

We had a lot of fun at the Blanchard auction. Yes, the Jerseys were looking great, although they were only 5-6 months old, so they still had some growing to do. The prices were somewhat low, but we did alright. I was happy to meet Lori and Chuck there, I'm not sure they've joined BYC Okies yet, but I was THRILLED that they remembered I wanted to buy a black shoulder peachick from them and they brought it to me!!!! Oh, and we saw Luvzmybabz there, and Misti and Lisa and ... well, we saw lots of people we recognized but can't remember or don't know their names. It's fun to say Hi to other chicken addicts!

DutchChic, I sent you a pm.

Carla, sounds like you had a good time! You should get pictures of that peachick up, I've never seen a baby one. I don't have a clue who any of the people are that you're talking about.

When I first joined the board it was me, Grace, Buckguy, egh, and OkieChick. That's all I remember talking to. Now they're the quiet ones! *ha*

The chicks were much happier! I had no idea the Sultan could look any whiter, and now I know how people get their Silkies so poofy! Do you remember how old that Silkie chick is? I can't believe I didn't write it down. I think its 6-8 weeks, right?? I should probably name them, but I'm afraid if I get completely attached they'll end up being roos.

Henny, he is such a pretty color! Did you try the vaseline on the hen's comb?? I can just see that little roo chasing the big hens! Our old neighbors bought a random lot from Atwoods. Turned out to be all standard size heavy breed hens and one little colorful banty OEG roo. My dad called him Mick Jagger.

That poor roo, he didn't have mates he had taxi rides around the yard.

Oh! Wow! I had the best weekend! ChickenStock was amazing, and I think everyone needs to help us set a date for the next one, mark it on their calendars, and not let anything get in the way of them going!!

Besides chatting with fellow 'Okies in the BYC', joining in on the raffle, getting a membership to the ABA (

), eating some great food, winning in a poultry show, and getting advise from a poultry judge, I had the most unbelievable thing happen - I got a new addiction/additions! Now besides the wonderful world of poultry, I am joining the wonderful world of rabbits

I met the most awesome lady (Lisa) who gave me a trio (is this the right term?) of ARBA show Lops

I am about to upload pictures to the ChickenStock thread, so be sure to check them out

coondog, your Silkies are just gorgeous

And I used to have a Crested Blue Swedish, so I am, of course, partial to crested ducks!

Cammie, I'm glad the chicks survived their first washing

Tell Clark that if he is so worried about them drowning, he needs to let you get some duckies

You are welcome. I have never met her but she was on a list of chicken people I have. Last year a man from Ohio who was originally an Okie was coming back for a visit and emailed me about Cochins. That is when I found out about her and put her on muy list.
I will keep my ears open for anyone that has what you seek. Good Luck

Congrats to you Grace on the win your birds were beautiful.

So were the majority of the Chickenstock goers BYC members? I'm so jealous that I missed out!

OH! Is everyone ready for the freeze tonight? My father-in-law had to call and remind me to undo my hoses.

Luckily my spoiled chickies are still toastie under a heat lamp in the garage.
