I know what you mean about hatching becoming addicting. I did my 1st hatch in November, didnt in Dec or January 2nd and 3rd hatch in Feb, 4th hatch going now and probably wont shut it down again until late late fall. I have 3 bators right now, thinking about selling the top hatch browers not made up my mind yet. My sportsman can hold about 15 doz eggs. And I will have it to where the bator is ready when we have Poops. So those bringing hatching eggs bring plenty. I can bring some but they will more than likely be just barn yard specials.

I have had incubators going all Winter. I hatched 20 chicks on Thursday and have another batch due out tomorrow. Others are due the 2nd and more on the 11th. I will probably be starting another batch later today. I use the still air Styrofoam incubators and have three going all the time now. I am excited about the meat birds I am hatching. They are Red Dorking Dark Cornish crosses. I have read they were the main meat bird in England for 100s of years and only replaced in 1930s by the Cornish Rocks.
My family eats a bunch of chickens and I have had it with the Frankenchickens. I am sure hoping these will turn out as good as I have read they will.

Gerald and I just hatched a boatload of chicks yesterday. Well, maybe not quite a boatload, but an entire tray in the Sportsman incubator. I think we had over a 95% hatch. A few poor chicks died in the shell before they could figure out how to get out, but I think Gerald counted around 70 chicks that he put in the brooder yesterday. I keep saying we are going to slow down on hatching, but we haven't slowed down yet. It really is addictive to hatch chicks.

Now it's time to go outside & get some new pens built today while the weather is nice. I just wish we had more time in the day to get everything done.

Congratulations on a successful hatch, okcarla! I've been monitoring the incubation posts and have even looked at incubators online. I understand that incubating and hatching your own clucks is the "harder drug" that keeping "just a few" clucks can lead to! I hope I'll be able to hold out and resist a while longer.

Good luck on getting a lot done today!

Hi all, I have a dozen fresh Austrolorp eggs and maybe a few Black Sumatra and Golden and Silver Phoenix eggs to sell or trade for chicks or something right now, have been turning them for 6 days now, if interested let me know, I have never sent eggs in the mail and am a little nervous about trying it, I live near Stillwater, can meet somewhere to exchange, Lynn

I hope my hatch turns out that well. I have about 90 eggs in a sportsman bator right now. They are set to start hatching on Wednesday. This is my first time to use a Sportsman. All the chicks will be good layers. They are from two Buff Orp roosters and the hens are Buff Orps, production reds, and barred rocks. If anybody is interested in some just let me know, I'll be happy to sell/trade.

Well it just depends on how cold it is this time of year. Sometimes there are a lot of chickens and other poultry, but most of the time it is the same 4-5 people selling the same things. I'm going to list these chicks on Criagslist and if I don't get them sold pretty quick I'll take the out to the dog trade on Sunday.

Thanks graceful 6 out of 8 so far, they are due today so im not to worried yet
