Just made it home....The kids were out of school, so we just
stayed in Ft. Smith

I sure miss the duck eggs for cooking/baking....they're
fantastic !

Have a good one !

If you will Pm me and get my number, you can come by next week and I will give you some Duck eggs to take home..Depending on the time of day you start home I could even meet you in town and deliver them,,

Sexing chicks???? - LOL Bill even knows about the string
and 16-penny nail....We did the test on our first chicks
from the New Hampshire Reds that TJ has done so
well with.

Nope, the nail was "wrong"....he was sure "Festus" was
a rooster chick, regardless.......

Well, the curtain has fallen and time has passed......
"Festina" is making a gorgeous little pullet..........ROFLMAO

There's something to it....................well, sometimes, anyway...

Have a good one !

Hi, I'm new to the chicken game and this site. We were planning on going to Atwoods to buy our first-ever chickens. We're only looking for egg-laying chicks and no roosters. Any advice? Does anyone sell them directly? Are the chickens from an Atwoods or Tractor Supply healthy? Thanks for any help!

HOWDY!!!!

Don't go straight run! Pick out of the pullets...usually cost a little more but worth it that is what you want. Yeah, health is usually good...same birds you get straight from the hatchery. Of course you could always wait and get some at our POOPS event!!!

Welcome mortyman! Atwoods chicks are pretty good - I've never had trouble with any of them. They should have a bin marked "pullets." and the ones with the metal bands through their wings are supposed to be pullets. I've always had good luck with their chicks. The Atwoods in Oklahoma get their supply from Ideal Poultry in Texas.

Yes, they really are beautiful! I just wish they weren't so far away. I don't like to buy eggs that have to travel more than a few states away ... and those are in Florida.

I've actually seen some BW OEGB at the Blanchard and Cement auctions, but the prices sure seem high to me. I still haven't figured out why bantams usually bring more money at the auctions than the large fowl.

Thanks for the help and advice. Can you tell me what a POOPS event is, and when it will be held. I'm in Inola; where will it be held?

Thanks for all the Okies helping me out! We sure are a helpful breed!

POOPs is us crazy folks getting together swaping birds, lies and food. It is April 25th at a KOA campground on the East side of OKC. There will be an update with the info fairly soon or look back a couple pages it is somewhere!
