My timing is off again. When I come there isn't anyone here! I hope everyone is having a good evening. I am still tired from the lake but doing better. My knee is somewhat better, helps being on level ground.

Henny glad you got the snake. Cute pic!!

Teach I don't know what that is your cooking but anything sounds better than the salad w/chicken that I had!

Yeah I about krapped my pants when I saw him. I had already cleaned my south coop and checked my broody...I was on the north end of the north coop scraping the dropping boards. The hens were just having a fit. Usually it's over who nests where, and your in my nesting box, blah, blah, blah. I was hollering at them telling them to shut up or else....Iwas on my way to scrape the south dropping boards, when I noticed they were all on the floor....at my feet...in a clump....bawking at me like crazy. Even the roo was in there clucking (the wuss, he is soooo fired) then I saw it in the nest box all coiled up like it owned the place....and I was like, no way you live, Bubba, cause I know you ate my Pollack! I went and grabbed my machete, my axe, kitchen tongs and a stick of dynamite...(just kidding about the dynamite) So I smished his head against the wall till he was dazed and confused (there's a song in there somewhere) with a square point shovel...trying all the while to chop his head off with the shovel...well God decided that would be too easy (gasp) So I tried to nab him with the tongs. Now folks let me tell ya... that works with tiny bullsnakes and garter snakes...but this dud was just too strong. In the meantime I'm thnking about Lynn (gulp!) and how all you pros woulda had it strung up by now, and here I am jacking around with farghing KITCHEN TONGS! So I just grabbed it under the head, grabbed the axe and chopped. Head came right off. (How come that never happens with chickens?) Then I really didn't know what to do with the dang thing. Meanwhile hens are jumping up and down, cheering and clapping and calling me a hero. They carried me around on their shoulders in the pen until I told them to knock it off it, was too much of a display for a humble chicken owner like myself. I expect a call from the president and the key to the magnificent city of Altus (choke) tomorrow.

Tis the season of the serpent, allright boy's what is your best guess. I found this this ole boy snugged up to the chick pen looking for a way in. Of course as you can see we had a difference of opinion, and I gave him an attitude adjustment. OK Teach give it the old college try on Identification.

and I think my fiance would leave me if I had that many baby turkeys running around here.

Unless some of you would like to go in with me. I only need 7 - 10 at most so that leaves 53 - 50 for everyone else to divide up. Any takers???

Wow what a coincedence, I just saw henny (KT's) post about her snake, dang they are out in force. I keep ole george loaded and in the feed area of the coop just for stuff like this. Henny she just grabs it and bites the head smack off. Now thats a woman LOL.

AL

Lynn : I hope these post make you feel better, we got your back.

Yup...two rat snakes...some folks will refer to them as chicken snakes especially if found in a chicken nest! Same snake really...constrictors. That big tube in its mouth is used for breathing when it has a mouth full of prey. I call it a Winchester on the gun...

Glad to hear it Greybear! Wish you had more!

You guys are hard on snakes. LOL

Ok, prevention. Take some of that black plastic mesh that they sell at Wally World and wad it up around the perimeter of the coop and run. The snakes will get caught in it. But you have to "part-out" the snake to get it out of the mesh

Henny - LOL - After Kendra came back down from "how high
she jumped".....TJ killed a small version of one just like yours.
Yup, Pa-Pa said it was a rat snake. We have the cooper heads
around here, so try to stay on high alert.

Yup, I don't wanna hear any fishin' stories, either. If this
water doesn't go down so I can go to the lake, Na-Na is gonna
go into DT's............. Am thinkin' about spending the night in
the 5th wheel out here in the driveway......... Don't know that
I'll make it till NPIP class.........LOL

Sooner - wish you were here - I broke down and fixed
shishkabobs on the charcoaler....Still got two 15" 'ers left and
my bunch has had it. Picture this - TJ says he'll wait until
tomorrow for ice cream............LOL Guess Na-Na still does
a "couple of things" right...........

Have a good one !

Yikes on the snakes! Before I had chickens there was a big rat snake that lived somewhere around here - haven't seen him in a while and now I don't want to!

Al - was your snake smoking a cig when you caught him? I thought I saw a butt amongst the snake pieces.

HennyP! I love that your clucks carried you around on their shoulders - good imagery!!

Buckguy - thanks for asking to take the kitties fishing with you - you're so thoughtful and kind, offering to expand their baby feline horizens...

Run that boy to the hospital Nana! Refusing ice cream! Bet he has that swine flu...or tetnus...possibly alziheimeirs!

I think for the next POOPS we will have a snake ID class and catching lesson...for the posionous ones we will have a dispatching classs! Lynn, that means not touching!
