What category will they compete in? Bantam Leghorns?

By the way - the third MalayX hen has gone broody, but she isn't quite as bright as the other two hens since all she has beneath her are two chalk eggs and a golf ball. I guess I will have to give her some fertile eggs so she doesn't waste her time on the nest.

There is still one MalayX hen running around being cute. She is the darker colored one and I am just waiting to see whether she will take up the challenge to hatch eggs next week.

If they do like their moms did they may set up an assembly line, that would be so cool for you to see. Another thing they may do that their moms did was to accept any chick to raise, they would even steal them from other hens! The Malay rooster that I had with them would make them give the chicks back though.

The way I would check to see if the eggs had hatched yet was to get close to them, if they fluffed and growled none were hatched yet. If they bit me they had chicks under them!

When they do hatch chicks just be sure to watch Jaxon when he is around them. I know he will want to be right in the middle of them and the hens may take offense to that.

Monty with you not being used to the incubator 60% is not a bad hatch. Hatching is an art you know. What works for me won't work for you and all that stuff. It takes time to tweak your methods that work best for you. My last batch was close to 95% and I ran about 30% humidity for the 18 day run and then raised it to 45% for hatching.

And yes if they look like they will show I will put them in as bantam Leghorns but I forget what class they show in.Ive got some bantam NNs out of those too. Mom came from Oregon and was the only one to hatch out of 12 eggs. If these look to be SQ they will go in as the NNs in the AOSB class, I think.

Gerald wraps each egg individually in a napkin, then he wraps each egg with a 6 X 12 inch sheet of small bubble wrap that he tapes up, then he tapes a "brick" of eggs together ... on turkey eggs, no more than 9-10 eggs in a brick, on large chicken eggs, no more than 16 eggs in a brick (4 eggs x 4 eggs) in a square, per layer, taped together. Then, I put the large priority box together, and add large bubble wrap around the sides ... usually 2-3 sheets thick on the bottom and top, and 1 or 2 sheets thick on the sides ... there's a minimum of an inch or more of bubble wrap on every side of the "bricks" of eggs. We stack 2 or 3 bricks on top of each other with bubble wrap in between. I have only had a couple of other people ever say they had an egg broken, and that's usually when the box has visible damage. This is the first time there's ever been a large casualty, and then the guy said the box was not damaged at all and it had to have occurred during our packing ??? Well, luckily (for me) he did send pictures which do show some damage to the box, but it still doesn't seem like enough to damage that many eggs. The picture of the eggs shows eggs with considerable damage, some with what appear to be holes in them .... I just don't see how that could have happened at all with the way we package the eggs. Then, he never would send me a picture of the tops of the eggs, which I requested so that I could identify the markings on them ... he sent me a message claiming I was accusing him of lying. Anyway, I do agree that was the box we mailed ... but unsure of those eggs.

The next time we box up some eggs, I need to take pictures of them to show everyone. Gerald is definitely an expert at wrapping eggs. I've done it a few times and I just can't get the hang of it. He can wrap hundreds of eggs at one sitting & still be smiling ... well maybe not smiling after sitting there for over an hour without a break.

I cleaned the 1588 im using as a hatcher yesterday and got it up and running today. Put 15 mutt eggs in it about 4pm. Got 3 pips already on day 19 (very early on day 19, its 2:53 am right now lol. Wife couldnt sleep and woke me up so I had to check the bator right lol. Its funny in the hatcher I cant get the humidity up as high as id like, its about 35% and in the incubator I cant get it to stay low as I like about 40% instead it was hard to get out of the 70s. Ive incubated in the 30s and hatched with humidity in the 45% range and had 6 for 6. Ive done the 50% with the humidity in the 60s for hatch and had 7 out of 8 hatch. Last hatch wasnt the greatest just on bantams, the orps where 10 out of 11 with a high humidity. Maybe bantams like a lower humidity?

I wouldn't mess with it. If you could sex eggs before they are even incubated, don't you think the hatchery would do that instead of having hundreds (...thousands) of cockerels to deal with!

You know I was thinking along the same lines, until I read the feedback, people are saying that it works
idunno.gif
and the guy is offering a your money back if it doesn't
fl.gif
of course it also
said that the guy doesn't answer his emails

the up side is that if you pay Via Paypal
they will give it back if he doesn't

Don, I already bought one, but the jury is still out. Seems to maybe work but I haven't had enough time yet to give it a real good test. It even appears to work on myself and others in my house!

I gotta get to bed but I'll try and update you some more later.

Edit for wore out!

I put eggs in the incubator at the same time the MalayX started setting and plan to transfer chicks from the incubator to the Malay moms when everything starts hatching. I have much better success with chicks raised by a hen than I do with chicks in the brooder. I will be sure to keep Jaxon out of their way when they have chicks, since they will be such protective mothers. I really like broody hens.

Good morning all.

Carla we so hope you can get this resolved. To me the picture of the eggs just looks to fishy. The box can be damaged after it was received. Sorry, I still think this dude is trying to get more for the money. Wonder if there is a record somewhere that he has done this type of thing before.
