Okies in the BYC The Original

Hi everyone. I finally got my internet service back up at home, but no time to enjoy it there. They're making me work overtime every night and now I have to work Saturday & Sunday night too .... boo hoo ....

Oh well, at least I can get on the internet when I'm not too busy & check out BYC. I've been pretty busy lately at work though.

And, my house air conditioner quit cooling & I had to have the repairman out today, and my home phone base unit with answering machine quit working, probably from the storm we had that knocked out the electric on the 4th of July for around 4 hours. We had chicks hatching then ... quite a few got stuck in their shells, probably because of power outage. Let me see, what else can I rant about ....

Oh, and I'm going to have to miss the Blanchard auction because of this stupid overtime

I'm exhausted! Well, I should at least be able to get some sleep tonight, now that the AC works again.

Lets see, what else can I rant about ???? OK, enough already

Cammie! aka Countyroad1330 ... it's good to see you back! You need to hatch some silkie chicks, not seramas!

Gerald's plasticulture garden is doing great ... he picked a 5 gallon bucket load of zucchini and cucumbers yesterday and took them to work & sold them to coworkers. I guess we need to find a farmer's market or something to start taking the veggies to. We are supposed to sell the veggies & keep track of the sales to stay in the program. The chickens are getting to enjoy some of it though ... I've been cutting up some & throwing them to the birds. Some of the birds like it, but others just look at me like I've got to be kidding ... they say they aren't vegetarians!

Sometimes these chickens make you want to ring their necks! My belgian quail hen that did a gret job and hatched 13,decided the two silkie chicks wre monsters and killed them.

I've never had a hen turn against her own chicks(ones she has hatched) I'm keeping a close eye on her,any more and I will take them from her. She is for sure going into the cull program!

Aw! It's so good to hear from all my chickaholic friends!

Monty - 200 chicks!?!?!

Glad to hear the knee is good. I'm no longer dispatching for the county, sadly

So I'm on the lookout for new career opportunities! And relocating somewhere more northern than my current location. And of course with all my free time I am ready to hit up the auctions! Where and what time is Blanchard's? I've never been, and that's only a few minutes from me.

Henny - Thanks for the welcome back! Hope your Pollack makes it throught the leg trauma.

ke_ben - I guess we haven't met yet! I've been around a while, just not lately. I moved to town last year and had to sell all my birds

But now me and Ollie (the duck) are ready to start us a little chicken family again.

I was hoping she could hatch my eggs, but I don't guess the Serama eggs would be a good idea.

Carla - Hello! How have you been? Cuban Longtails has silkie seramas, so there's my compromise! *haha* I'm going for Seramas because I can take them anywhere. If it doesn't crow, who's gonna complain, they're so tiny!
big_smile.png
Have you been to the Cement auction lately? I was going to go Saturday but it was a holiday. Have they moved it to this coming Saturday? So where do you work, do they have any openings? *haha*

Monty get some LS-50 and weigh out three grams on a postal scale, put that in one gallon of water and give it as a sole source of water for about 5 days. Should fix them right up. LS-50 is pricey though about 30 dollars for enough to treat for five days or just a tad longer.

Haven't even had the time to lurk lately so I will have some major catch-up to do.

LOL, some of the Saipans that we hatched from Troy's eggs were crosses, with what you ask? Well lets just say two have top-knots and one of those two have five toes!

you can put marbles in the water so they can not put there head in to fare

Okcarla, I am in tuttle too. almost got your eggs this morning at the PO> Well Mary caught it before she put them on the counter anyway. I got BSL eggs from Okiehen just wondering what you were getting. I really need to go to some of these sales and meet some of you great folks. Good luck with your hatch. Cindy

I woke up this morning to a Holocaust outside!!! I seen feathers and then went out there and found that something had a field day last night, whatever it was got 30 +/- a few of my chickens!!!! I checked for holes in the fence none, gate was shut!! The perimeter fence is 6' chainlink with 2' burried! They were everywhere, inside the coop, in the chicken yard and even outside of the coop in our yard!!! The weird thing is that I have a small pen that sits right next to my main one and they were unbothered!! Anybody got any ideas of what may have done this??? The only thing that I can think of is either a Big cat or a dog but other than that I am stumped and really bumbed out!!!!!!!!!

No we haven't met but I was just there for a family reunion around Father's Day. I was just kidding on Ollie about trying try to breed with a Serama, now that I know it's a girl that makes it even more comical.

I wouldn't know about a duck hatching out Serama eggs, no personal experience. Is she a good momma?

Judging by the post times you must be a night owl, maybe a former night dispatcher. Good luck with the job hunt.

Hello fellow Okies! Have a great day.

Sorry quenston for the losses.

Jeez quenston...sorry to hear that....predators are scary... I live in fear of them. Someday when I am rich I am going to heat the fence.
