LOL.. I go in every morning and tell them..."Don't lay if ya don't feel like it." I would rather have happy hens that are alive than eggs. They look horrible in the nest boxes in this heat. They scare me. I had Mike go in and check them last night cause I didn't want to know. It runs about 110 in there if I get the mister going if not it's over 120. Poor hennies.

Holy crow... what is going on...seems like everyone is either dying or getting killed recently. It's kinda creepy....

Prayers for them for sure.

Henny I hear ya it is scary, this year alone it seems that alot of people I have known has passed, just goes to show we need to be ready because you never know when he is gonna pull your card and say come on home!!!! Our prayers go out to Auctionlover and her family!!

15 weeks??? yikes! Even if they did lay that early they would be some tiny eggs. I believe you have about 4 more weeks to go before you start seeing eggs. If you wanted to, you could keep them in the pen until about noon and then let them out to range for the day. Most chickens lay in the mornings. There are exceptions!

Keep in mind that the heat tends to throw off egglaying as well.

This is funny thought I would share

Cuban, Thanks I will try that. They are going to be mad at me. They love to free range.

Also, I have one barred rock that keeps getting high up in the tree every night to roost and I have to knock her out and shew her in the coop. Should I just leave her in the tree? I am worried about predators.

Stubborn ole' gal. I have had to lock mine in the coop for awhile before they got the picture that that's where they're supposed to go at night.

Not only might predators get her, but she might end up teaching some of your others to roost up there too.

Well, I guess I will just keep waiting for the eggs. Is there ques they give when they are ready? I was told to watch the combs and faces and they are all getting really red so is that a hint? I love my chicks

It is funny my hubby that was only tolerating my hobby is now watering and feeding them just for kicks. Yesterday he was pulling bugs off of my veggies and feeding them to the chickens. This hobby has the whole family interested it is great.

I can relate!!! When I first started raising chickens my wife and kids were always asking why??? I said they make ya breakfast and they are a good way to releive stress and cheap entertainment!! Now they are into more than I am and when there is a auction or a swap meet they are the first ones to say what time we leaving and how many can we buy? But it is a great way to teach kids responsibility and is a great family activity, my kids are even clipping wings and cleaning coops which says alot because my daughter is 100% girl and wont do anything to get dirty but when it comes to the chickens there is no such thing as dirty she jumps in with both feet!!!!
