The horse that I had for my kids was 15hh. He was really old, but sooo gentle my son could ride him when he was 2. Its best to have horses your kids aren't afraid of though, they really can sense fear.

Where did you get them? We've been looking for one to keep the coons and possums away from the chickies, but haven't found one yet. We have a Bernese Mountain Dog which is similar to a GP, only black and tan instead of white. He is great for the big predators like coyotes and big cats, but he thinks anything small and furry should be part of the family and won't chase off the coons. We have been setting up live traps and leg holds, which are working really well. We were catching 3-4 coons and 2-3 possums per week during early spring. It slacked off when the wild animals started having babies that were easier prey than our chickens, but it will be starting up again pretty soon.
i have a friend that raises them will have some more pups pretty soon i think there is another female bred already

As you know trapping and hunting has been a part of American culture for hundreds of years. So long in fact that the litter sizes of the animals has increased to make up for the extra loss. There was a study done in either Mi. or Mn. years ago that confirmed this.
Well enter the groups that oppose the hunting and trapping to the point of harrassing hunters so they just stay home. The extra animals are not taken out of the wild so they are hungry.
The subdivisions are also putting less houses on more ground which is encroaching on the ranges of these animals faster. They will still hunt the same territory but oh well, now there are houses there.
I have often told people that they just go to bed too early, they would be suprised at just how many critters cross their property every night. But now that they have birds the critters often stop for a snack.

We bought her from the sellers that we bought our house from... A year next month, they had her for a couple of years. In the spring/summer she is all dark once her winter coat is shed...
She is not mean at all very gentle, she used to be one of those merry go round ponies you see at parties and such. The mad as a hornets nest comment I made referencing her attitude was more her not wanting to be lead back to home even though she did go with me, her demenor was that just like a mare in heat... of course it didnt help that the stud was call back at her and being all crazy (literally)
You can lutalyse her if you are sure she was bred. It'll make her sweat and act a little colicky. It will cause her to abort if she is bred though. There shouldn't be a problem size wise with the foal though. I know of some people that routinely bred Percherons to small mares and the foals were fine. The danger is letting your mare get too fat while she is in foal. That will cause a lot more problems than the size of the stud. I have had horses(I barrel race) and have raised a lot of babies, this is just my experience.
Yonderoak,
I am sorry I have not been in touch,(been a very very busy weekend) just got the brooder (the twin bed one) closed up and now have to coax everyone that likes it to go into the main coop now. Letting the brooder air out today and then I will be ready for the new ones. Possibly by Saturday. I still have to clean it up and add new litter. Got the main coop done today some what. Need more shavings. Boy was that a work out and its only 11 am.
All I know is our pony went to a little girl that was wanting a pony for Christmas. Her name was Cherry, and she was just so gentle. Maybe one day I will get me a horse I can ride. There is nothing more relaxing than riding. Except maybe watching the chickens play.

No problem, just let us know when you want to come out. Can totally understand weekends with more to do than you have time. I get to clean out the hen house and put new litter in tomorrow. Hope it dries out a little by then (not that I am complaining about the rain
