I hit the motherload today.

We went to Atwoods to pick up some cement. Next to the driveway there was a pallet of sand. It said FREE! My husband talked to the loader as they were putting the cement in the back of the truck. The loader actually agreed to use the forklift and load the entire pallet of sand. We ended up with 3 dozen 60 lb. bags of sand for FREE! I was so excited. I was able to build a sandbox for the kids and fill a tire with sand for chickens. I even had five bags left over to use as refill. I think I got a good deal. I also got the paint for my new chicken coop for under $10.00 at Sherwin Williams today. They had some mistinted paint that was the exact color that I was wanting. I had a great day.

My chickies go into lockdown tomorrow!!!

After the very fun and successful spring 2009 POOPS event there was much interest in having a fall event, we felt that we surely must let this fine tradition continue in all it's fanfare. with continued support We will strive to make this event even bigger and better than ever as our fine members deserve only the best. For those of our new members and members who were unable to attend the Okies in the BYC POOPS, it is a family oriented affair, where members come to meet the folks we talk to everyday on this forum, and enjoy the one thing we all have in common our fondness of poultry. This year promises to be one you do not want to miss, and as I stated it will be bigger and better than ever, this year we are planning the following.

1. Food : This year we will be featuring a full pot luck lunch and dinner.
2. Poultry : The usual fanatical buying/selling/swapping of poultry.
3. A night of fun filled entertainment at the clubhouse.
4. Several static displays for your learning and viewing pleasure.
5. small lectures and demonstrations by professional and respected members of the poultry and agriculture fields.
6. A Raffle
7. and for the first time our very own Live POOPS Poultry Auction.

9. POOPS T-shirts for sale at the clubhouse.
And much much more!!!!!!!.
10. POOPS Grand Prizes, 2-6 mo Golden Feather Memberships to the BYC.

A special operations commitee has been formed and several of our fine upstanding members have offered to give freely and happily of their time and expertise. they will head up the following appointed ares of intrest.

We are lucky this year to be able to also have plenty of extra T-shirts in different sizes available at the event for sale. but get your order in early, NO $$$$ will be needed in advance to order.

Monty and Myself will be posting more specifics and details on these areas in a later post. As always Monty will be seeking Donations for the clubhouse rental and the cabin reservation info at KOA. We tried so very hard to choose a date for this event that would fit 99.9% of are available members, the weather, POOPS planning and reservation schedule, and local and regional events. The good folks at KOA have been so gracious to have invited us back and we recieved some very good positive feedback from are members, that this was a good fit for our needs. As a group we are known for are steadfastness once we set our minds to a task, it is now up to each and every one of us to come together and contact the appropriate principle to offer any help and suggestions, ya'll know the drill. The principle heads will start to post a list of names and services volunteered as it begins to come together in their areas.

So Okies let the festivities begin in the tradition of the most poplular group thread on this BYC forum.

Hey Roy I'm doing good, staying way too busy for boys still! But hey, I got chickens so that's good enough for me

I mean its been months and months since I've been able to spend any less than an hour and a half a day just taking care of the realy basic chicken stuff.
How are those Japs doing that you got by way of Tara at the last poops? I have six more almost that exact same age right now, and 4 more about two weeks old.

I just realized something I think I'm stuck in a continual state of spring cause as recent as a couple days ago i still have chicks hatching!

There is a kind of duck called a Buff Duck, that is probably what you have. Do a google search for that breed and see

I originally thought about those too. But my babies don't have the darker markings on their heads. The only photo that I have found that looks like them is the pic on the bottom of the feathersite page for Saxony ducks. I'm not sure if that is what they are but the photo is almost identical to them. I don't know where she ordered them from. If I did I could check their site and see what breeds they sell and maybe narrow my choices down.

Hey Jeannie!! Where'd you get them from?

Hmmm... have you looked at Khaki Campblell duck pictures? That's another possibility.

My birds all tested clean

Depending on what you "failed" on, I think your birds can even be put down!(Like if they had a very serious disease)

I cannot help my self... I had to look!
Do you still have this bird:
Spitzhauben (LF) x Silver Spangeled Hamburg Pullet - $6
(2009 hatch, small crest)?

She sounds like she could be a sister (or wife

) to my little "Spitz Bantam Project Bird"! Infact I may be talked into buying her at POOPS
big_smile.png

Yup, and I hatched her from your eggs.

I will get a photo of her to show you. I thought she was pure spitz at first, but I don't think she is. She looks more like a spangled hamburg with a crest.

Oh! I was wondering why you had the same cross I was working on!
roll.png

I don't remember exact dates, but she could have been pure or mixed... I had a Spitz and a Hamburg roo with the Spitz hen at different times. Eitherway, I'll probably want her

They're not dark enough to be Khakis, but thanks

Ok There is a thread called Red Barred Roo over Dominique Hens what will I get

The rooster pictured there is pretty much like the one I passed up at the swap meet and was going to go back and get. But since I am in the 12 step chicken addiction program I didn't go.
Anyway that one is much like is the beautiful rooster I saw. The one I saw was a little lighter red and didn't have as many black feathers in his wings.
The man who did the post said he thought he was New Hamp red over Dominique.
Check it out I think I might have to try and raise some of those.
But that is project number ....... I forget what day is it anyway?
