Hello everybody! It does seem slow tonight. It was drizzly and gray all day today - again. So after umpteen days of that my mood is in the....well, let's just say I am not as full of sweetness and light as I usually am.

I spent about 30 minutes in the hen house after dark knocking one of my pretty but flighty white EEs off the nest. She is trying to go broody...Mabel the Buff Orp is over it, so I guess Fiona Bluelegs thinks it's her turn. I would put her in the hospital coop for a few days like I did Mabel, but since that's the coop the @#$%^ predator of the suspected-masked-face-ringtailed persuasion got the pigeons, I hate to lock anyone else in there. DBF Jack has been busy and hasn't had a chance to come over and help me move the coop into a more secure spot in the run, so she gets to sit on air or infertile eggs for a while.

That porcelain color with Silkie feathering, that'd be gorgeous.

Why do us women always have to put up with men's krap?

Have you guys had any luck buying hatching eggs from ebay? I am looking at the Black Copper Marans, and I am wondering if anyone has had good luck with them. If so, who is a good seller?
There is a breeder in Seminole, OK of a couple types of Marans, but I am not sure I want to pay $60 per dozen eggs. Although the eggs look awesome in the pictures.
The breeder in Oklahoma is: http://www.fitzfarmandpoultry.net/
Any advice?

Hi Pokes! I could be wrong, but I think I remember Mallen (on here) saying he got some eggs off Ebay...and his hatches seem to be going gangbusters! I'm not sure if they have BCMs, but okCarla and okiehen are a couple of great Okie breeders to check into. Good luck and Go Pokes!

I know a guy that has Black Coppers and he doesn't really like them. His lay a very dark egg but he says his Cuckoo Marans out lay the BC's 3-1.
Garcreekpoultry in Oklahoma has Marans but I am not sure if he has BC's.

I found out a couple of hours ago that Patrick Swayze (the actor) died of pancreatic cancer. I knew he was battling it. He was only 57 - originally from Houston.

My stepfather Tom owned a grocery store in Houston years ago. Patrick Swayze was one of his employees when he (Patrick) was in high school. Tom says he would catch Patrick dancing with a broom in the storage room - practicing. I think his mother was a dance teacher. My stepsister had a crush on him when she was a kid - he was handsome. Tom always kept in touch with Patrick's mother. It's a sad day in my family.
