Tina, between the three of us we should be able to take that sale with a storm....and let NO ONE get the bid. LOL Would love to go to an auction like that. Let's do it.

I don't recall who was working on trying to get the OKC ordinance banning chicken raising changed, but here is a blog post about changing right-to-farm laws in urban areas. When you can raise chickens in New York City and LA, but not Oklahoma City, there is something terribly wrong...

Sharon Astyk is a co-author of the new book A Nation of Farmers , which I have on order from Amazon. I'm anxious to read it... sounds like my kind of book!

Big Cowboys fan here. Just not a big fan of Tony Romo right now. And here everone thought it was poor Jessica Simpson's fault!

Not a big fan of Jerry Jones, either. Fired the best coach he ever had right after winning a superbowl, blocks the drafting of Randy Moss to run the opposite side of the field from Michael Erving, and dumps TO, the only deep threat they had. Dumb dumb dumb.

Too bad you can't fire an owner.

I am going to try and get mine completely done today and post pics !

I will be putting put pic's this evening also. It should take about an hour to mount the doors and attach the top. I already have wire on the doors just need to let the paint dry.....Are you building the same one???

No. I had an old metal shed. A nice one, been forever waiting to clean it out and fix it up to use............but.....then we got a new one and this one ended up being my chicken house.......and it is a nice shed, nicer than our new one

so they live in a 1000 dollar shed.we attached a run made with a frame I found on Craigslist...we chicken wired it and framed it and topped it with some awning material we had...........it isnt complete inside yet,but have nesting boxes up , still have to put up roosts and make a babie cage in one corner....cant wait to paint it all..........it is nice though, safe and secure !

Well. I think I might have to keep my old coop also.......I have my rabbits in there now, it isnt safe yet so they just run during the day,but this new one might get full really fast. I have 3 baby guineas and 27 chicks growing like weeds in the new one ! Lost 7 chicks to pile up.......was to sick to go get heat lamp.......they were fine until I added a blanket

and then they piled up

The Department of Agriculture will come and NPIP every bird over 4 months old for $5-10 total and give you a certificate that the birds you have are certified NPIP tested for one year, (I don't recall for sure whether it is $5 or $10), which is less expensive than paying an individual for the antigen and mileage.

Call Marie at 405-521-3864 to get testing scheduled. Glad you have decided to keep a NPIP flock.

I have had a NPIP certified flock for several years and had the opportunity to "work through" a problem with my flock with the Dept of Ag in 2008. This morning I decided to put Marie's phone number in a place that is handier to access, rather than getting out my NPIP tester certificate everytime someone is interested in getting their flock tested, since I have answered several questions about it the past week.

When buying new birds, my first choice is to get birds/eggs from someone who has a NPIP flock, so I don't have to keep the new birds isolated until they are 4 months old and can be NPIP tested.
