I like the plywood all the way to the bottom in the back, face the back North and that will keep the cold wind off of them when they are down on the ground. I'm going to put plywood over the wire down there for the winter and take it off in the spring. I guess I'll go on and put a door on the front of the run also.

I had planned on turning it into a duplex but I' not sure if that's a good idea. The small size of it makes it easy to move to fresh grass, so maybe I'll just build two more, one for the black pair and one for the blue breasted red trio.

My BB Reds use the roost, but have not used the nest box thus far. They might be a little to young still

Is it a constant thig or like when fed? sometimes dusty feed will cause the sneezes as will dusty bedding.

Sulmet is for Cocci, if you can't notice any pattern to the sneezing like dusty bedding or feed then I would give them Terrimycin in the water for about four days and see if that perks them up.

I don't know that sulmet will do any good, that is what you use for Cocci (at least that is what I think).

In the handout from NNBreeder it says Tylan 50 or tylan 200 for resp. illnesses. I would see if you can get in contact with him or maybe post on the health thread!

I am sorry you are loosing birds! Let me know what you find out.

Thanks for responding Les. We have been losing a few each day but I thought it was because of overcrowding...they just bunch up so tight. Anyway, my DH said that 3 of the teenagers had one eye shut and act like they just don't feel good. I started to use the terramyacin but wasn't sure...I'll try that.

I keep wondering if there is something in the the little shed we have them in. Last summer when we kept losing them it was in this same shed. I have no idea what it would be though.

so what can you treat the inside of the coop with to prevent or kill lice and mites??

I have a friend over in Hawaii that had a bad infestation of mites and she tried Sevin dust (worked kinda) And then switched to 10% Permethrin (worked even better) and then she swapped to a propane burner and caulked all of the joints on the coop plus eliminated a lot of pavers and such that they could hide under. There her main problem was the lava rock having all the tiny holes in it.

Here all you would need is the 10% Permethrin and tightening up the joints in the coop.

Smith's supply up in Ks has the spray, are good to deal with and will be at the Shawnee show in Dec.

Thanks Brick! I really like it.

MAllen I plan to do the same, but I was thinking of using a tarp or something like that for closing the bottom to stop the draft in the winter. I have even considered putting plywood in the bottom and making it just like the top. The way the bottom is I could have a set in the top and in the bottom.

Les...I neglected getting back over to your stand and getting one of your booklets. I was too busy fighting it out with Tina and forgot to come back over there. Dang...I'm sure all these answers are in there. Is there a way I can get a copy now....or is it you snooze you lose? LOL

P&B mailed me mine! (she is awsome)

I have also started a 3 ring binder with info on my birds (ages, breeder or where it came from) and general info that I can have on hand (LES handout) and not have to try to remember where I read it.

I have one light on them and fairly close to the floor. We've been keeping it shut up tight at night and just leaving the light on all day and night since there were several small ones. Last night I turned another light on just in case that was the reason they are bunching up but we still lost 4 today. My DH has moved the quail to make room for the different sizes to see if it is due to bunching...but I heard them sneezing. I'm going to go out tomorrow myself and watch them. I couldn't this evening ...I had a meeting at work and they were already sleeping when I got in so I couldn't tell much about them.
