That's fine, just whenever you get a chance

Dubbing is actually pretty easy. You need sharp scissors, alcohol, bleed stop powder, and the colder the weather the better.

Dip the scissors in the alcohol & wipe them dry. Have a partner hold the bird or wrap him in a towel & put him between your knees while sitting. I hold the comb & cut from the front to the back close to the scalp (as we good Indians always do

) but not so close that you're cutting into the scalp (kinda hard to explain but when you're doing this it will make sense) If there is a little blood a little of the powder will do, if ya got a bleeder reach behind his tail and pluck a downy feather, lay it over the comb area and put the powder on it, it'll stop eventually. For the flaps just pull them down a little and trim them off. Be careful not to catch the ear or any of the face.

Sounds painful I know but I don't recall ever hearing a rooster scream to much about it. All it really ever did was make the game roosters mad for a while. The result after healing is awesome, looks like a different rooster and tends to give them a little more attitude. It takes about two weeks to heal up.

I'm going to be doing my bantam roos as soon as it gets cold. Might dub that NHR just so I don't have to worry about frostbite.

MAllen ; Thanks that is very close to what I thought it would be like, I had thought of a few ways to reduce the bleeding and the pain but it sounds as though you really don't need to jack with them.
I know that some breeds need to be Dubbed for the show ring and some are dock for having them dubbed, then there is the common sense reason for dubbing. Thanks for the info.

Hang in there. Get some rest and eat something with some protein to levelize your blood sugar. Try to remember that you are dealing with someone who looks like your mother, but no longer thinks like your mother used to. Sounds like her medications need to be adjusted if she is crying constantly. Is her pneumonia being dealt with in a manner you think will cause it to heal the fastest?

Remember the caregiver has to take care of themself first, so they can stay healthy enough, both physically and mentally, to provide care.

Guineas don't even remember how to fly back over the fence they flew over to escape their containment area. I can imagine them running up and down the creek trying to remember that they have wings.

Glad your grandson is doing better. It is scary to realize that we don't know how teenagers think and that their thoughts don't always make sense to us with more life experience.

I will try and find the Muskogee regs on chickens for you - later this week. Maybe someone who lives their knows what they are from personal experience and can answer your question.

those guineas are really a riot, who needs tv when you can go watch them? they stood there on the side, discussing the possibilties- they have to have a commitee to decide things~ finally one jumped it, and the others followed.... they were so pathetic looking...

well, no rush on the muskogee regs, as i doubt they can afford to safely house them- warned her about the necessity of safe housing- we'll see if she is serious though

Yes that is a good thought.

My biggest oops was when we were putting rafters on a house and I was walking them down the center of the house. Well there were some cuties across the street sunbathing and I didn't step over the opening for a hallway. Luckily I didn't hit anything on the way down.

Yea, there is a little difference there. On our game roosters we did not leave any rounded point at the back, we cut it all off. Same with lobes and wattles, you just have to be careful to not gather up to much skin in that area otherwise it can make the cut look wide around the throat & face.

I'll get to do a lot more of this in the future. I have Lacey Roundhead and Pinnon Grey eggs in the incubator AND 48 bantam eggs!!
