Good morning Okies,
The temperature on the computer says it is 38 degrees and that is way to cold for less than 2 weeks into October in Oklahoma.

Teach, thinking about the ice you have is not a cheerful thought, although the hot chocolate sounds good.

Guess it is time to try and catch some of the chickens that are roosting in the bushes and try to convince them the hen house is a better place to stay at night.

There are two guineas setting a nest in the middle of a sage plant in the flower bed. If they weren't different colors, I wouldn't be able to tell there are two of them, they are so close together. I hope it warms up again before they hatch the eggs in about 10 days.

Good morning everyone!

I am glad to see all is well in Okieland. It didn't take me long to read up on last night. How come we didn't get to hear what at anyone got from the auction??? Stimpy is the only one that checked in.

I am enjoying my coffee & the BYC before church. I got so much done yesterday I think I will take it easy today. I made the wire cage last night and for the first one it looks pretty good. I need to put the door on it but I have to figure out how big and what to use on it.......More to study.

Morning P&B I have some to move around and one to get out of the tree's but she won't sleep in the coop when she is in the pen? I wonder what I can do??

Good Morning Okies!

My DH and I went to the Blanchard auction last night. it was alittle disorganized, but I think that it was from selling goats and sheep earlier, it was the first time for them. Also Jerry said he had 4 people out sick so had alot of extra volunteer help. All in all it wasnt bad, was out of there about 10 pm with close of auction. Got to visit with AL and Stimpy and his wife. Of course had to give Al a hard time once about his dress at POOPS and got to listen to a story from Stimpy of how he tried to blow up himself and his house years ago. Came home with 6 standard silver laced cochin chicks and 1 standard splash cochin hen.


Forgot to ad that I came home to an incubator full of babies. They must have waited til I left to hatch. There was 4 out of their shells before I left, when we got home I had more than 30 out and all over the incubator.

Good morning - cold here! And I forgot to bring my outside houseplants in from the porch...oh well - I'll bring them in today and see what survives.

What kind of pullet did Al bring you, Stimp - was it by any chance a white one?

Mornin'.

We were at Blanchard, but just for the first part of the poultry auction. We were there more for the goat auction to learn what to look for. I picked up a lot of pointers just by watching the people who obviously knew what they were doing, which is how I learned this chicken auction stuff. I now have a good idea what to look for in goats, but will wait a few more auctions before getting anything. Might go to Mountain View next time.

There were really only three or four serious bidders there, and one of them obviously knew what he was doing so I kept my eye on him and what he was selecting or bidding on certain body types.

Mostly meat goats were there, although there were a few milk goats and one pigmy. I could tell it was their first time. He was the first one out the gate and was quite a character. He jumped on top of the fence and then into the auctioneer's stand. They had a devil of a time getting control of him. It was quite a fun way to start things off. He went for ten bucks I think.

We didn't stay long for the poultry auction because I was more interested in the equipment than any of the birds. I walked through the place several times and saw a couple of birds that looked interesting, but nothing I just had to have.

Got 6 one gallon waterers and a Hova-bator with turner. I was more interested in the turner for my serverbator, so bid pretty high on it figuring I could sell the bator later by itself and make some of it back. I'm not sure whether it was because it was a Hova-bator or because some devilish soul just wanted me to pay a lot of money for it and so bid it up, but I spent half again as much as I have ever spent on a bator. Still a very good deal, though.

I saw Al there and we chatted a bit, particularly about the recent hubbub, but since I don't know many people here by sight I don't know if I saw any of the rest of the gang or not. Since I was there with family I'm not sure I would have had much of a chance to visit, anyway.

Since we left early we drove by the Alex auction out of curiosity. They were already packing up by the time we got there. One fella said they only had 10 lots and they were very disappointed. Said I was welcome to bring some birds or anything I wanted to sell next time. Since I want to support a robust local economy, I just might, even though I'm not likely to make much on them. Since my plans for our future flocks have fleshed out over the months, I've decided I have a whole bunch of birds I don't really want.

Anybody there for the whole Alex auction? What did you think?

Most of the time yes. Usually depends on the breed. I can sell my Wyandottes on craigslist for $2 to $3 a chick. And this batch is mixed. They are RIR crossed with Silver Laced Wyandotte, I usually can sell mixed chicks for $1 to $1.50 on craigslist.

Good morning everyone I just got out of bed so I am getting a late start lol it is 44 here and cloudy I was hoping to wake up to a little sunshine and a little warmer need to get the DW painting on the new coop!!!
