Okies in the BYC The Original

I have friends like that. I then tease them about coming from the wrong stock.

I won't pretend it isn't a loaded term. As a kid in CA, I was kicked out of a store more than once because I was one of those Okie kids. Out there someone calls you an Okie, it depends on who they are and what the context is. I won't pretend it was nearly as bad, but in some ways it was like the N word to an African American. A fellow Okie calls you an Okie and it is a term of endearment or a tease. Someone who obviously isn't one calls you that and you take a good hard look for context and body language. It is more than likely an insult. I saw my uncle ready to fight a man for calling him an Okie, but him and my dad called each other that all the time.

Once I used it in front of my former mother in law, who was from PA but had lived in CA for quite a bit by then. Rich folks. I said something about my Okie family. She said, "Oh, don't be so hard on them. People can't help the way they are." I was a little stunned. I think that ticked me off more than if she would have called them Okies the wrong way.

Mallen : Wow my chicks look really fine LOL, you had a great hatch they all look super nice and healthy. we will be looking forward to seeing some of your stock the next time we all get together.

Hennie : that gross looking growth looks to me like an Alien that manifested itself into your chicken. be careful when your doctoring it so it doesn't jump out at you hehehehe.

One thing I have learned to dislike driving in Oklahoma is the dreaded 4 way stop sign. It appears that most Okies cannot count to 4 or get very confused. But I like to think they are being polite and just waiting for everybody else to go, and that makes it worst LOL.

Carla - So sorry to hear Gerald isn't doing any better. Praying they can find him some relief.

Henney - Ya, I think I'm gonna skip dinner tonight now. Lol. Make any advancements with her yet??

Since ya'll are talkin smack on OK drivers, I would like to say that when I used to work for law enforcement, some of the dumb dumbest calls we ever got were due to out-of-staters!

Can't remember who put up the video of the crowing Silkie roo, but he is so pretty!!

Grace - If I wasn't in town, it wouldn't be an issue at all, I'd already have a roo!

OH!! Tonight my hubby (jokingly) said: "Why can't you just have normal, good-egg-layin chickens? You've gotta have all these weird ones!"
Marans and EE's, they're decent for eggs, right!?

finished debriding for tonight.... she seems OK...she has decided that I am NOT her friend...lol...gonna give her a snack of some sort...she's earned it. Heck for what she's been through today I should take her to Braum's for a double dip hot fudge sundae!!! Thanks for all the support OKIES!!! LOL... I love y'all

Glad she's doin ok! You got my appetite back, but now I'm just gonna skip dinner and go for dessert. Lol. Give her marshmallows; I know its horrible, but the first time I vaselined my birds combs and waddles, I rewarded them with tiny pieces of marshmallow.

Sorry Donna!! I'll come pick her up if you don't want her.

Hey, I'm perfectly happy with a mille fleur...I didn't pay any attention to them...had to get over to pick up my other chickens...got some blue, black, and buff orps. Sure are pretty. I'll check the chicks out tomorrow and let you know.

Finally home! Gosh I hate goint to the ER. We went to SW Med Ctr at SW 44th & Western. Actually, I like that hospital better than most around here. I guess there's several within 30 miles of us, but most of my family members go to SW Med Ctr whenever they need a hospital.

Gerald was lucky and had a nice looking young female doctor. She ordered a CAT scan & pain med's in an IV. The CAT scan came back normal, and Gerald still complained of the pain behind his eye. Doc said the only other test she would recommend was something that required a spinal tap, and Gerald refused it. So, after 3 rounds total of pain med's, they discharged Gerald. He is finally totally out & snoring in bed.

I found out today that it sure is difficult to convince an adult man that is totally zonked out on pain med's to get out of the car and to walk to the house and get in bed. He definitely had no idea where he was or how to walk & I thought for sure we would both fall as his idea of walking was little tiny baby steps, wobbling all the way. We stumbled many a time on the trip from the car to the bed. I bet he has a superduper hangover tomorrow from all the pain killer. Poor thing ... he's going to miss out on a parade celebratign Veteran's Day in Shawnee tomorrow morning

I doubt he will be totally recovered from the pain med's they gave him.

Now I'd better go outside and feed some hungry critters. We never had the chance to feed them today. Must find flashlights!

Thanks again for all the well wishes. Gerald will surely appreciate them once he recovers.
