I'll be there Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday. I think this is to be a larger than usual show, so judging may take longer, but if you want to see birds Sunday, come pretty early in the morning. It opens at 7 Sunday, judging resumes (most will be judged Saturday) at 8. Immediately after judging is complete awards are given out and everyone coops out quickly. If finding out who wins the top awards isn't as important to you as seeing the birds, your best bet is to come Saturday. You'll be able to walk around everywhere except the isles that are being judged at the time you're there. With the number of birds expected, you'll probably need more time than what will be left Sunday.

If you want to have a chance to buy the best birds, some will be put out Friday evening, but most will be available starting about 7 a.m. Saturday. The best ones will sell out fast, but you can get bargains late Saturday and early Sunday. Most will be in the sale room, but there will be some people selling birds in the front parking lot from their trucks.

Ah well. I can't get there that early on Saturday... we probably won't roll in until around 1030 ish. My daughter has allergy shots on Saturday mornings, and we have to wait until she's cleared before we can leave.

Guess we'll just have to see what's there

I finally got a free minute to check the thread. I wish I could go to Shawnee, but I've got comparison and contrast papers that will be in the pile to grade the week of the show.

Carla: The Brabanter eggs arrived today. I've never seen such a wonderful packing job. Thanks for the extras. They'll rest today and go into the incubator tomorrow. I've had it warming for three days in anticipation of setting this hatch. DH is in Albuquerque, NM, this week for work, so he wasn't around to hear the girly screaming when the postman delivered the box. I did a little screaming too.

P&B: Your guineas would be voted class clowns at the high school. Four (the largest) have taken to riding on the package rack on the front of the four wheeler when I drive down to shut the gate at dusk. The rest chase us as far as the first cattle guard before turning back.

Those of you lucky enough to go to Shawnee should take lots of pictures and post them. It's not the same as being there, but it will help me (and the others who can't go) feel like I/we didn't miss the entire event.

So what is it about the Brahmas that appeals to you, Al?

Hey Jim :

I bought a really nice Trio of Light Brahmas from Sam a couple a years ago and I still have them, out of all the breeds that have come and gone I have always kept them. They lay fantastic big brown eggs all yr round, and they hatch well too. Just some nice birds to have.

Gitfiddle?? What's a gitfiddle??

Hope you reminded her how lucky she is. When we were kids we had to carry everything to school in 3 feet of snow and a 30 mile per hour head wind, uphill, both ways.

Barefoot. Down gravel roads in the summer, wading through snowdrifts in the winter. Not a tree in sight to block out the weather.
