I had seen those nondescript mutts you are talking about before. They look just like the bunch that guy POed at Fletcher a couple of months back, wanting $5 apiece for them. Last night most of them brought between $2 and $3.75.

We made it to the show yesterday. Only saw a couple of blue shirts, but didn't have the nerve to interrupt their conversations. Only got to bring two of the grandkids - of the other three, one had a basketball game, one decided he is petrified of chickens and wants nothing to do with them, and the other one got in trouble. The two that did come with us were fascinated with all the different chicken varieties. I didn't buy any, but the grandkids did pretty much decide on what breeds the prefer. Of course, at their age, they will change their minds several times.

Shelby loved the little OEGBs. Since she's only five, they were probably less intimidating. A Brahma roo crowed right at her while we were "shopping" and nearly scared her to death. It was really funny - once she recovered her nerve, she got in a crowing contest with him.

Eric flipped over the standard black cochins and the naked necks. He thought the naked necks looked like dinosaurs.

It a little odd, Eric suddenly loving chickens. He had never displayed any real interest in them before. Seems his teacher told him that chickens are very closely related to dinosaurs. His imagination immediately went to velocaraptors (sp?) - (wonder why not the T-Rex?). He's a dinosaur nut, and has been since he was tiny. He came home and helped me feed the chickens - that's a first! He walked right up to Big Daddy and fed him out of his hand. Big Daddy has always been a gentleman, but hasn't been especially friendly. I was really surprised - maybe Eric has a way with chickens? (Eric's the one that started all of this, anyway. He caught the three chickens this batch started out with at a rodeo. I knew he wasn't afraid of them, but until now, he could take 'em or leave 'em.)

Wish I could have met some of you there, but there will be other chances!

For all you shy people out there when at a show the best opening line is " Wow there are some great looking birds here" then you follow with "hi my name is____" Works every time and I have used it for years. Made some very good friendships at shows.

I can understand where you a coming from though as I am the same way. It took years to figure out that at a show or swap the birds were the common factor and that was a good "opener" for conversation.

Dee next spring we should have an abundance of NNs and I bet I could get Eric fixed up with a nice pair or trio.

Goood Morning Okies (said like they say it in that movie 'Good Morning Vietnam'),

It is a beautiful day outside. If only it would stay like this all week, I would LOVE it. Lots of gardening to do, I need to make some sort of flight pen for our new pigeons. Umm, I think I am going to try and start designing an actual bird sanctuary. I am going to use old pallets and bold them together (they will be wall supports), put plywood on the outside of them, chicken wire on the inside, then put a regular roof. I will make separate quarters for my different groups I have or plan on having. I am sooo excited as is Charlotte too! Maybe it is this sunshine, it really does something to me I am telling you. I LOVE THE SUN! Although I do like a good rain too, with really theatrical clouds. Well, the hubby has breakfast made, mmmmmm bacon and waffles our weekend treat.

Yeah, prices were definitely high at the show. They're probably worth the money, but I'm a bargain hunter/garage sale addict/flea market maniac. I think I'll just take my time & see if I can snag a show quality roo for pennies on the dollar. If not, I'll humble myself & pay the big bucks. I need to ask Michael Daugherty to be on the lookout for me some roosters.

Funny you say about getting birds for the new children I was thinking in a similar fashion this morning when I was laying more hay down in the coop on how neat it would be to allow the foster child(ren)to have their own chick(en) if they would like to care for as long as they are in our home and who knows maybe it will help them in therapy?

Animals can be very therapeutic as a child when I was very angry and upset at my mom or just the world in general I used to run out to the pasture and visit with the horses, it always seemed the horses knew I was upset and would come up to me and nuzzle at my face...

Hey I too am on the lookout although they are hens. I am pretty certain I am full of roosters.
I am looking for:
Standard Cochins in Blue, Splash, and Golden Laced
I think I will try my hand at the Bantam Cochins too in MF, Mottled, and Buff Columbian. Of course I really did like the white Cochins I had so I prob wouldn't mind them in either size.
D'Uccle (I learned how to say it correctly yesterday) in MF (hens) and Porcelain (Charlotte is really wanting to get a roo again like her 'Buddy', but also will need some hens)

We hardly saw any D'Uccles at the show yesterday. The ones we did see were way too expensive. I even had to get a confirmation that they were pricey. Well, I only came in for a second now I need to get back to the great outdoors and soak up some of this beautiful sunshine. It feels like shorts weather outside and I packed mine up already!
