Yep I'm going to head that way too. I have a busy and cold day ahead of me tomorrow.

I just have one hen laying right now but as with all my hens I can peel the shell right off the egg without ever breaking the membrane underneath.

Healthy breeders make healthy chicks, a fact that people often overlook. Nutrition plays the biggest part of that. At one point many years ago, like 20, we fed Purina game bird flight conditioner to the breeders. If I remember right it was 24% protien but it was close to 3xs the cost of layer feed, sure made some nice chicks though!!

Think I'm finally ready to crash out... J went to bed a couple hours ago because he has to get up for work around 4am or so. Me, I'm sleeping in, then dragging the kids outside to help me clean the coop.

Adam,

I'm sorry I was hungry and it looked so good, the devil made me do it.
Eve.

PS you didn't need it anyways did you?

Your funny Eve! No I have plenty. But look how much trouble giving up just one has cost.
Now stay away from the apple tree.

Adam

Yes, Morgans make great driving horses too. My Aunt trains quite a few for driving, they do it so very beautifully. Morgans have a very beautiful gait to the trot and feel so smooth when riding, too. I know a while back we had a stockier one the older style Morgan, I don't know what all they have these days. I hardly go around the horses, because of my allergies. When I am not around them often, my eyes get really itchy and I sneeze constantly. So unless, I am going on a ride with my mom or something and have prepared myself with allergy meds, I don't get around them too much. I haven't shown since college, but I do miss owning and riding one myself. I have been working on my husband for awhile now to persuade him to let me have one and so has our daughter because she also loves horses and loves to ride (anytime my mom has a horse camp she is there).

This summer, my DH told me I could go ahead and get a horse. A horse. As in ONE horse. When I bought the two rescues this summer, I didn't tell him I bought two. He didn't know until I brought them home. That way, he couldn't make me take one back. Fortunately, he kinda fell in love with DJ from the moment he was led out of the trailer. Those crystal blue eyes of his (DJ's) may have had something to do with it? He forgave me!

That is similar to how I finally got chickens. Except I didn't tell him I was getting them at all. I just brought them home and he couldn't make me take them back, besides it was the Easter bunny who delivered them and hid their brooder in the barn. LOL Although, I don't know who delivers horses and that might be hard to hide for a moment.

Good morning guys and gals,

I just want to thank you all for being so cool to me yesterday on our postings regarding the Jackson Vs Broken Toe Tom(our last remaining Turkey) and how Broken Toe Tom did not win that round with Jackson..

Jason didnt return home from Reynolds Army Hospital till 3 hours later... Jackson's sharp puppy teeth scratch Jason on the fleshy part on his thumb(where the palm and thumb connect... but one of his canine's went clear into the area between the thumb and pointer finger... Jason did say YES it was painful when they went to clean it out!

Through it all what transpired after wards is a testament to how happy I was to see Jason and his DD come together and while one apologized the other forgave...

Jason sat us all down and apologized for what happened and that he takes responsibility for the events that unfolded and that come late spring when our turkey babies will arrive, Aleisha can have her pick of a turkey and name it Merry Legs if she wanted too( a name Aleisha tried to name one of our horses that happens to be a colt... that we had to say um no ... ..lo a name she got after Black Beautyl) .. I am just glad Aleisha turned to her dad and said its ok I forgive you she was pretty distraught with her dad after what happened when we had returned home to find Jackson and the Turkey.

Lessons learned on a farm is so important... actually lessons learned in life is important if we ever expect to grow as a person.

Just a thought for those worried about their poultry in this cold weather--probably most of us.

Wal-Mart carries an Emergency Blanket in its camping section that is a 52" x 82.5" tissue-thin aluminized polyester. It is wind and waterproof and conserves body heat. If need be, it's easy to cut into smaller sizes and place around cages and small coops. They cost around $3 each, and are packaged in about 3" x 6" hanging boxes.
