P&B was your head about to explode today? Last night when the wind went to the South I instantly plugged up and I don't think there was enough drugs taken today to clear it. That's what I hate about allergy meds, it takes a few days to really get them through my system.

Hopefully, she just picked up the wrong ingredient sheet. Cattle feed will likely have pellets of alfalfa in it that are larger than layer pellets as well as oats and whole corn. Does the feed have only cracked grains?

It has chunks in it... I'll bring some to you on Sunday and have you look at it. It does have cracked corn, and something that looks grainy/powdery, and grains. I didn't see it until I got home because it was in a big bag. If this is cattle feed, I'm going to be REALLY REALLY MAD.

Especially since I had to make a special trip and drive 30 minutes each way to get the stuff.

Oh, and no, I have no idea what it's *supposed* to look like. I've only ever bought pellet and crumble from the local feed store.

Maybe I can can help. The scratch should have cracked corn & rolled oats. Layer feed should have them same but with small pellets added. The cattle feed has several different colors of pellets with corn. Should not have much powder because they use caramel coating so the powders stick to the pellets and to keep the powder from going to the bottom of the bag.... Hope this helps.

Good evening Okies!!

Hope everyone got to go out and enjoy this lovely day. Heck it is still nice out side which I know because I heard a chicken screaming out in the coop. So I run out there because we have been having difficulties, as everyone knows, with predators. When I closed up the coop tonight there were several stragglers, one of my black cochin pullets, a langshan pullet and my black sultan hen decided they did not want to go to bed with everyone else. I guess the little cochin got scared and was out there just screaming her head off and not another creature around.

Of course with her screaming it would have only been a matter of time before something came and shut her up for good.

Do you all know how hard it is to catch black chickens at night. Oh well, everyone is safely in the coop and grow out pen. Stupid Chickens.

So far we are three weeks no kills.

Tomorrow is the Blanchard auction and I am so looking forward to it.

I have some cages I need to get rid of that are just taking up space and a few other odds and ends. I probably need to get rid of a few of my new chicks but I just do not think I can let any of them go. They all think I am their chicken mama and they are my babies. Heck they eat out of my hand and stick their heads up so I will pet them. It is so sweet. Boy I am in so much trouble.

I would like to know more about the CD idea. If I hung them up in the chicken pen would that work? So far hawks have not been my problem. If nothing else it might decorate the place up a little.

Ok, this may sound like a stupid question but mille fleur cochins are not the same as mille fleur d'uccle, right? I was on a site where they were calling mille fleur d'uccle, cochins and was a bit confused. I did not see any pictures but my cochins do not have beards and d'uccle definitely do have beards. One of the reasons I covet them so.

Now if there is such a thing as a cochin with the pattern on their feathers like the d'uccle I need someone to hook me up cuz I must has some of those.

Also while cruising the internet today while my students were taking their benchmark tests (which I can not help them at all) I found some people who raise French Copper Black Marans and blue Ameraucanas. They are selling the Maran eggs for $60 a dozen and the Ameraucana eggs for $30, of course this price did include shipping.

Now the birds they have are nice do not get me wrong but for $60 a dozen hatching eggs they better all be guaranteed to hatch and hand delivered on silk cushions.

I hope everyone has a great night, going to go get some sleep, it has been a long week and I have not slept for poop. Night All!!!

If I was to post a picture of our black naked neck do you think you could tell me if its a girl or a boy... I have no idea? if its a girl I wouldnt mind taking the roo for it...

Les would be able to tell you if yours is a hen or a roo. I hope you have a hen. My friend is so worried about her "babies" and I know you wouldn't automatically butcher it the first week.

In fact as the days begin to look nice I am going to seperate our " Misfits" and build them their own area outside the coop with their own housing and allow them to be just "pets" as our RIR and BR's are working girls.... Trying to make a chicken utopia that allows the kids to have pets(NN,Bantams ect) while we still not lose sight of our goal in the first place... self reliance with eggs and our meat chicks(coming soon).. So your friend would have no worries as far as butchering the poor baby

How old is the NN? I can see no spur buds which is a good sign and I can't really see Saddle feathers coming in either. Here is a chart on the feathering of both the cock and hen of chickens. If it is over 6 mos or there about I would say it's a hen.

Just wanted to say Hi and catch up on what everyone is talking about. Didnt get home until about midnight from Maud last night. I wish there were not so many auctions on Saturdays, thats when we have our poultry auction so I'm not able to go to any others.
sad.png
I have been wanting to check out Blanchard, Fletcher and Chupps, I hear alot about them. but Maud is the only one I get to go to since it is during the week. Goats sold high again last night, Poultry was selling better than it was last week. I did buy some hatching eggs and some chicks! Now my incubators will be full!
ya.gif
Because I had to open the gates at 9am today so I couldnt stay for the entire sale last night. I'll be busy all day tomorrow but will try to catch up Sunday!
