Shhhhh - his secret is safe with us, we won't tell.

Yeah, I told him if he couldnt find anywhere to go to let me know and I would try to find some willing sole around that area to take him in. Good thing his girlfriend likes him. They have known each other since kindergarden.

Hello Okies. I guess we survived the storm huh! Got about 6 or 7 inches of snow with about 1 inch of ice under that

well if i could get out and sled in it with my kids and grandson it might be kinda fun. Its kinda pretty to look at when it glistens. But what a mess the rug in front of my front door is soak and wet.

All the chickens stayed in where its warm. I found some geese eggs in a nest in the barn they where cold to touch but i went a head and took all but one and kinda cleaned them up (they were muddy) and i think i will try to incubate them anyways. when i went back out this morning she was on the nest and then covered the one egg back up and came out to eat. Is that unusual for a goose to set this time of year?

With the crazy temperature swings we have had since November, I am not sure any of the critters are going to be doing what is "normal" this year. My daffodils were out about 7 inches before this storm came through, two hens were setting on chalk eggs before they went to the zoo, some folks have turkeys already laying, my hens can't decide whether they want to lay - or not - but those that are laying are putting them into nests

I am not familiar with geese, but maybe the fact that they are nesting is a good sign that the weather will be warmer in February, when their goslings would be hatching.

I don't care who you are! I am thinking of a rematch...but this time I ain't falling for her tricks!

Our hens are in what seems to be overdrive---I am gathering between 12-18 eggs per day. Many are from pullets that are now at the point of lay. Good girls! I think it is the skylight in the coop--they get lots of natural light even on these drab days. GOOD GIRLS!!

Funchick - that is like the coolest handle..how is things? It is stupid cold here. I know so cuz i was outside working and a friend called and asked what I was doing I told him I was working outside and he said, "It's cold stupid."...wait...I think I misunderstood him

Does anyone know if the power goes out, do the cell towers lose power too, or are they backup powered by generators? It would make sense that no one's cell phones would work if the cell towers have no power at all--at least to me anyhow!

I would bet they do not have generators on them but I have been know to be wrong. I would bet that those relay antennas for radios are more likely to have generators on them for emergency police type stuff

Hey Teach! We are doing well! Power is on, all of my people are safe, and I'm in front of a blazing fire. LIFE IS GOOD! I don't mind the cold so much as the heat of summer.

I think my family says the same thing to me when I head out to take care of all of the critters--"It's COLD stupid!" The funny thing is, even as cold as it is, my little barn is comfortable inside and I LOVE being in there when it is stormy. Listening to the horses eating and the chickens talking to me is one of the most peaceful and relaxing things I know.

I luvs me barn!

When we had the bad ice storm in '02 Pioneer Telephone had to put generators at all of it's substations to run the equipment for the phones. So lack of electricity could be the problem behind calling some people.
