Good evening all. We have had a long day. I have decided to downsize some of my birds. If anyone is interested, let me know. Roy, I tried to call. There are some that I think you might want. Other than roosters, I am not getting rid of any chickens. I have a new rooster to sale. I havetwo white Silkie roos! We are in town right now. We're going to Kmart and grabbing a bite to eat. Today has been a serious nerve taxing today. I don't feel like cooking, so we're eating burgers.

Bethany allows chickens as long as the coop is kept clean and they're not considered to be a nuisance by the neighbors.
Thank you for sharing. I would really rather learn from people's experiances than descriptions in books. I just know I don't want to go with a bird that's bred to be an "egg machine". I had thought about Dominiques at one point also because I thought it might be nice at some point (if we could have a roo) to work with an old breed. I really have no idea what the best way is to go yet...
Well have you ever thought about a chcicken tractor? they are a coop and run with whels you can move around your yard and the help keep control of ticks in your yard and that would sovle 2 problems as to keeping your pens clean, you just have to keep moving it around every 3 days 2 is preferred. I do build these. so if you like you may contact me @ 405 386 5633 that is if no one minds me offering such a service. I am cheaper than most big name companies that ship them to you in pieces......I am not sure what the rules are about advertising on the thread? This is how I make a living.

Welcome to all of the newcomers. It's great to see the thread grow like this. We have the largest (and best by far) group of chicken, goat, rabbit, dog, cat, (you get the idea) people in Oklahoma on here.
Hoodoo if you are wondering about the rules there is a tab at the top of the page. They are striaght forward and allow us to have a lot of fun and still keep the family safe zone.

got to wondering today, after seeing them setting up for chicks at Orshelns, i have 8 hens/pullets with my 2 brahma roos, is that number of hens ok for them or do i need more hens?? so far there hasn't been any arguments with the roos... and also, how hard are turkeys to integrate into a chicken flock?

Just go get'em.
Careful with the turkeys and chickens. Turkeys are much bigger and can actually do a lot of harm. Some folks don't have issues, some do. It's just something you have to keep a watch for.

LOL! Yep i do want more, not sure if they'd fit in the coop- a 4 x 8 coop, the run is 16 x 20.... actually, when i got the brahmas, i thought they were pullets, but you know that isn't always the case...
got aprons for the girls, so they wouldn't get defeathered

I like to have a rooster for every three hens since I have a lot of different breeds. Of course not all my roosters stay with the hens I choose for them. Planning on setting up a breeder pen for the birds this spring. Let you all know what birds will be breed when if someone wants eggs or chicks.
I have read and heard from people here on BYC and in books, rule of thumb to ensure fertility 3-5 hens per rooster. Of course I am sure if you have 6 or 7 hens you might want to supplement the roosters' diet with vitamin V (if you know what I mean)
