Wow! After reading this article, (click) I hoped our worries were over!

With the hand-off of the program to the states it has actually gotten at least one of the major opposition players to back off. R-Calf has come out in support of the new guidelines for the program.

Here is a copy of a letter sent to the Ag. Sec. after the announcement of the changes was made.

Who told you it was dead?

The USDA announced it. It's been scrapped completely and they are going back to the drawing board.

No, you can't pin this one on the feds. This is the brainchild of one our own locally grown legislators, with the assistance of Big Food, no doubt.

Well, if that were the case, I would be all in favor of it. But I fear not. This would likely harm the small producer much more than the big folk who can afford the extra cost and pass it on. Seems like all ag regulation tends in that direction.

Grace - That's AWESOME !!!!!

Am not
surprised that those Black Cochins did
extremely well. Those are gorgeous birds !

Thanks for mentioning TJ's show results.
As I recall, I had posted that while everyone
was having fun at the auctions....LOL

And, for those of you that know us, and
Kendra...... She is not with us anymore.
Illadvisedly, she has made some decisions
that will not serve her well for her future
and she is back with her biological mother.
This is what she "thinks" she wants and
has spent a mountain of "unpleasant"
effort trying to pave the way for this move.
We'll go for our, hopefully, final hearing
Friday.

No concerns need spent for Pa-Pa, Na-Na,
and TJ. We're fine. You might remember
her in your prayers....as we do.

Have a good one !

Hi Na Na, I hope things go well and I will say a prayer for Kendra and you guys.
Is TJ gonna show at Newcastle or is it gamebirds only? I can't remember.

Tell Bill and TJ hi.

Tell Bill that I did a study and found out that Raccoons prefer Langshans over any other breed of chicken. At least from my studies.

A coon got in my pen two nights in a row, (I thought I had him stopped after the first night) and he got both of the Langshan pullets.
He passed up Marans, Welsummers, and Gold Campines and took a Langshan each time.
This happened back in the fall. I have not lost any more birds to predators.

I hope to see you guys at POOPS.

Monty

well, this year will be 33 years- good grief where has the time gone!!

Sir Edward Scissor Beak

i am so sorry!! he was a special little guy. you know, i have house birds-finches, starlings, blue jay, sparrow, cockatiel- and my banties- as a general rule working with wild birds, fumes as mild as a fragrance candle can kill wildbirds- don't know if chickens are that sensitive, but just a thought- my instinct on the little guy would be he had lots of underlying issues with that beak and he was a very blessed guy to be in your home

well i was watching the flock today, sure as shootin i know the instigator of the attack on pj- because she has started the same behavior towards one of the other girls- donna my RIR head hen, as soon as Barny has his way with a girl, she runs up and starts after the girl yanking on her comb... jealous little minx- so how long should i seperate her to reestablish the pecking order? and should i reintroduce her and pj at the same time?

Thanks for the kind sentiments... Even though we had only had him about a month now he really grew on me and that is why I had made him so far the one and only honorary chicken inside our home..lol.. Not only did he have a criss crossed beak but he had 5 toes on each foot they were very distinct toes with his lil feather "socks"... Our dog Dixie moped around a bit after he had passed and our two cats even sensed something was amiss in the house and I believe its because we are so used to hearing Edward chirp when we would come around which was alot since he was in the Keeping Room and we have our computer in there.... Again thank you for the kind sentiments its appreciated

Jeannie, it always kills me to lose one- and to lose one you are so close too..i still ache for little puddin and spike- even though i have other house chickens- and the other pets in the family know too...hugs hun!

I just wanted to sy again how much fun I had visiting last night. The only way it could have been better was if some more of our good BYC folks could have been there.
Jared had fun entertaining and thanks Carla and Al for the kind words. I let him read the posts and I think his head swelled a little.
Al I know he loved talking duck hunting with you and I think he pestered Michael to death about going out to hunt a hog. Then he tried to sell Michael the rooster that I had po'd from the auction.
I never got to meet Oldtownchickens and his wife. They were on the front row and seemed intent on the auction so I never bothered them. I did get to meet b52fizzle.
Al's wife Laura is sure a nice lady. Al sure married above himself there.
She learned what a Cuckoo Marans is.

Buster and I talked about a couple of our old pasttimes boxing and puppetry. Two things that don't really go together but two things we have in common.
It was good seeing everyone else too. If I named everyone I probably would miss someone but I tried to count up in my feeble mind and came up with 25 BYC'ers. Plus everyone's auction budddy Sam that hung with us.
I also saw a lot of other folks I know but that aren't in our BYC group.
A good time indeed.
