Good to hear that those who went enjoyed themselves and that you all were able to buy things some what inexpensively....

Neecy, I can get a couple of Goose eggs from my dad, I still have my Brahmas and would be glad to bring one of each as far as rooster and hen if you need me to, also got a Silkie Roo that I could loan as well. I will start looking for funky eggs when I am gathering, will you need any help on the 10th? We will be there so let me know and I would be glad to help!!

YES!, YES! and YES!!

I would gladly accept help! This is my first time doing this and I am a nervous wreck!
We will be presenting a 15 min. workshop to ALL the 4th graders in Ottawa County. They will be in groups of 15-20 kids.
I kinda have an idea of what I would like to do, but I haven't got it completely worked out yet. I will call you later!!

Okie Dokie!! I think that you will do fine!!

SC, Teva and I was contacted by the local library years ago to give presentations about birds to youngsters in one of their summer programs.

Teva had her presentation all worked out and she was going to talk a little bit and then do a Q and A session to cap it off.

Well as fate would have it she was called in to work leaving me with like nothing as I was the helper. So what I did first was to hold up our big NN rooster and I asked what he reminded them of and that really got things rolling. We had Cockatiel babies and they got to watch me feed them, learned about chickens and we just had a great time.

You will do great at this, I have faith in you.

Gerald came home from the Blanchard auction with all kinds of stories to tell me. He said he had a great time visiting with everyone & thought it was a good sale.

Unfortunately, one of our 2 hole cages disappeared. He even found one that looked exactly like it ... with the same color twisty ties holding the doors and the cut in half 12 oz. coke bottles that we add to put food & water in for our birds ... odd, but it had the masking tape marking of another seller. Anyway, it wasn't one of our best cages. I've heard of several others that have lost birds & cages there ... so I recommend everyone mark their cages VERY WELL and try your best to keep an eye on what you buy. We're definitely going to mark our cages next time.

I hear that a lot of bad refrigerated eggs were sold the time before ... so hopefully that seller doesn't do that again. Gerald said they were putting an occasional egg in water to see if it floated on some of the eggs ... to see if the eggs were too old.

Also .... luckily Gerald didn't buy a dozen Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs that were auctioned off there. He found out that the seller was the man that bought Stephanie & Carl's pair and the rooster died a little over 2 weeks ago ... so that means some of those eggs could be up to 2 weeks old and the latest eggs could be questionable on being fertilized. I sure wouldn't want to be the person that paid $11 for them. I hear the guy wants to bring the hen back to visit them again ... so her eggs will be fertile???? Is that true?

It's not quite so easy to guard stuff at the Blanchard auction. Too many people everywhere and too many exits.

Michael told us a while back that he "hires" some of the kids running around the auction place to guard his trailer and things. That's not a bad idea!

Yes!!! The guy that bought the eggs had no idea until we told him.... We wouldnt have known but the seller of the eggs and buyer of my birds came and told Carl that he couldnt believe he sold them for $11.... Talk about the buyer of the eggs being upset. He told the guy that if the eggs werent fertile he would be looking for him!

Then that a** that killed my rooster( and that it what I am sticking to) came looking for Carl, walked up to me and asked where Carl was. I told him I didnt know at the moment and what did he want. He said he had a question for Carl....... Carl came back laughing and mad! Said the guy wanted to know if he could bring the hen back out to our place so to have my rooster cover her so he could get more eggs that were hopefully fertile..... The answer..... NO!

Steph,

How did he kill the rooster? I guess I am not understanding what happened. I have not had as much time lately to keep up with the thread. Sometimes I just skim through it quickly.
