Made myself a gadget to take care of that. Works great.....take a plastic spaghetti scoop....the one that has 7 or 8 upward curving fingers around the edge....get a hunk of gray plastic conduit (mine is 5 feet long) just big enough to slip the end boot over the handle of the scoop.....push it on as far as it will go....drill a couple of small screw holes through both the conduit and handle....insert the screws, and get ready to pick up eggs from just about anywhere. I have some turkey hens trying to nest in the middle of a particularly obnoxious thorny vine patch....I think it might be greenbriar vine...and trying to retrieve the eggs had me looking like I'd tangled with a cougar. Not any more. et

That is an excellent idea! Thanks for sharing

I use a spaghetti scoop to remove hard boiled eggs from the hot water, but never considered using one in the coop. I do keep a long handled cooking spoon in each coop to help reach beneath the nest boxes, but putting a longer handle on it would sure be handy. My grandmother had a silver serving spoon bent into an "L" attached to a broom handle for getting eggs from beneath the roosts, but I seem to be the only one in my family that recalls that implement.

Sigh...my poor mother (in TX).

She called me a little bit ago to give me some family news about the Little Brother, and she asked me what I was doing. This caught me off guard and I didn't have a suitable story at the ready, so I told her the truth. I was researching the city ordinances in Enid as they pertain to chickens. This answer caused my mother to sigh and say,

"Bethie, you are SO into this chicken thing..."

Being the Child, I imagined I could hear concern and disappointment in her voice, and I couldn't help it - I reverted to that immature place that even as adults we can still find ourselves in when dealing with our parents, and I just blurted out,

"Mom! At least I'm not doing drugs!"

She laughed.

I think that something strange is going on with BYC - I see code written between all the posts - something about the number of users on line at one time and "do not edit" - sure hope they don't have a virus that is going to gobble all our posts and plant something on our computers

Maribeth, I will respond to your T-shirt PM (& anyone else that sends one) tomorrow because I left my spreadsheet/list on my computer at work.

Yep pretty sure I got oldtimes! I'm loosing it or already lost it.

Hi Stimp

We are wondering why BYC has funny code between all the posts. From your computer expertise, what are the options that could be causing it?
There are some other threads about the code and some have suggested Armagedon or aliens

Donna I think you should send a video of you at the auction. That would surely show them what wonderful personality you have. I also like the idea of you showing each one of your birds. hehehe How could they say no then?

I guess it is a no go to Blanchard this weekend for several reasons. Birthday is Friday and I am expected to participate. Not exactly sure why but it means dinner and a movie I am game. Than of course there is the Medievel Faire this weekend and we never miss it. It is always fun since I get to see friends I haven't seen all year. Than there are more b-day functions Saturday night as well. That's ok I am going to try to get to Cement weekend after next. Plus POOPS is just around the corner,
