Roos are hard to "retrain" once they have developed an "attitude". The main thing is that you have to show October that you are the leader of the flock and he is the second in command.

My signature line has the number for Marie at the Department of Agriculture. She is the person to call regarding the NPIP certification class you and your mom took last June. She will have the answers to your questions, because your mom should have received her certification by now.

Well, I won't be able to make it on the 1st, but will do my best to make the June auction. Cement is much closer to me, but I swant to check you guys out and give you support.

Thank you everyone for the warm invites and information. Im not exactly sure what i want to start raising. My fiance and his kids have anything from old english to cornish I personally like seabrights and silkies but not really sure. They want me to get ones to show but when it comes to that area im lost.

Sorta different thing going on for me.

I thought I had two pairs of button quail, one pair to each cage but one pair managed to lay three eggs in 16 hours. That seems like a lot even for two hens. I know I have a rooster in he other cage since he is the standard color. I don't think they have adult feathers yet, his bib isn't even solid yet

The funny thing is I had to separate them because I thought the "other " rooster was terrorizing him. I am wondering if I have a depraved hen instead. They are really fun, the first pair I had were so wild they bashed the bejeezus out of themselves if you even looked at them.

The eggs are beautiful, really going to have to get an incubator built now.

Hopefully I will get chicks in the mail tomorrow too. :::crossing fingers:::

Thank you for the support. Hopefully everyone will enjoy the sale even though we arnt having any can goods or groceries. We would prefer to stick to chickens and all other poultry. We went to the cement one the other day and really enjoyed ourselves it is a very friendly crowd.

Welcome to the best place on the BYC!

I'm sure that others will tell you about the Blanchard auction if they haven't already, it's good.

When a rooster gives me attitude, I go out of my way to dominate him. I use the sole of my shoe and give him a little shove every time I get near him, maybe sometimes run at him or something. Nothing to hurt him, just something to play the "I'm top roo" game.

I use the sole because if he pecks at it, all he will get is a beak full of leather.

Last night one pecked me on the hand so I picked him up and held him in a way he couldn't move his wings and chatted with him a bit. Changes the attitude real quick.

Most of us will be at the People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap (POOPS) on May 1st, which lasts all day long. I hope your auction does well though. How often do you intend to have an auction?

If you are interested in an auction there is one being held May 1st in Newcastle not to far from Blanchard. Its sticking to poultry and poultry related items nothing else.

Hey Modern,

Is that your auction that is starting in Newcastle? If so, best of luck with your new service. I will say that it
is not the best weekend for the BYCers, that P.O.O.P.S. weekend and all of us will be there. What other days do you
plan to hold your auction during the month? As long as it is not on our weekend, we WILL be there. Promise.

Amen on that poultry and poultry related items. We had someone that wanted us to start selling
old groceries and sun glasses. NOPE. Doc told me, "Not just NO but HXXX No." I have to agree.
He said that people want a poultry auction and not a junk auction. Selling shotguns between the
guineas and buff orpingtons is not a way to impress folks with the quality of birds you have at your sale.
