Good morning fellow Okies!

My family and I are going through a lot at this moment and I would really love it if everybody has us in your thoughts/prayers today. We are facing a very challenging day today. Thank you and I love you guys for all your support!

Dande...

Tell Corey my Serama are fine. They didn't even know there was a cloud in the sky. Too bad about the snake....Shivers go up and down my spine when I even think of them (sorry Teach, some folks are just that way). I would like to know more about "snake powder"...I've never heard of it. I'm building a new "chicken enclosure". I may never get it done. I only have a little while on Sunday's to work on it. It will all be 1/2" hardware cloth. Putting me in the poor house, but I think (hope) it will be critter proof. I am the architect, contractor and carpenter (plumber and electrician, too) I've been working on it for 20 years...as a hoophouse/greenhouse/shadehouse/chickenhouse...still evolving.

Morning all! It is nice and cool here - but supposed to heat up today.

BarnSwallow - digging postholes is quite the chore - do take care of your skin, My Fair Lady!

Jack and I climbed up into my upper attic Wednesday and replaced the pulley on my whole house fan - lucky for us it was quite cool Wednesday so the attic wasn't such a hot box. Now I'll play the game of "how late in the year can I wait before turning on the AC."

I have been weeding the garden - the ground is so soft and wet the weeds and grass come out easily. This year I had decided that because of all the volunteer tomatoes that came up last year I wouldn't plant any of those this year. I went ahead and planted 4 tomato plants because I thought maybe since the winter had been so harsh no volunteers would grow...but I have tons - have been planting them in pots to get them out of the cucumbers, squash and peas. I didn't plant any corn, okra or sunflowers this year, and I have those coming up all over my garden, too - so maybe the winter wasn't that bad. A nice little stand of wheat is growing by my compost pile. Happy accidents!

Will pray for your family Kate...

June - your chicken enclosure sounds interesting!

Al, if you are delivering materials to the new job site and it is windy, please allow someone else to assist you in unloading the large flat objects that tend to catch the wind and knock you to the ground.

By the way - nice looking fish that you caught yesterday. Did y'all go to a public lake or someones private fishing pond?

LOL Thanks Marybeth for the thought I will have my guy's do all the unloading, I hurt my shoulder last week so I am trying to take it easy on it but it's not that easy, some kind of rotater cuff injury.

My friends and I headed to our favorite lake ( Waurika ) little to no fishing preasure, no ski boats and sea doo's, 10,000 surface acres with a great game fish population. I have been frequenting Waurika for many yr's and know it well, so catching 100 fish a day is not an issue, there were 4 of us on a large boat and you can imagine how many BS stories were told and we were heckling each other all day. Great guy's day out I should do that more often it was what I needed, all work and no play makes AL a dull boy.... hehehehehe, one of the guy's wife called while we were catching fish and we sure had fun ribbing both of them.

AL

My thoughts and prayers are with your family today, Kate!

Knowing a bit more about what they're facing, it could be an important part of a much bigger picture. Very big stakes involved here. Please give her all the support you can!

City,
My hoophouse/shadehouse/greenhouse/chickenhouse is all left-overs...leftover wire stock panels, leftover landscape timbers....I have a lot of photos taken over the years on my old computer...I may be able to retreive them over the weekend when I have some time. My heat system is the best part of all. It is a 10 gal. hot water heater with an in-line pond pump and a closed loop of garden hoses...It has worked with my plants for years...why not chickens? Chickens would probably like radiant heat to keep their little toes warm. Will try to retrieve some old photos when I can. I have a lot on floppy's...don't know if I still have a computer that will take floppy's????

Morning Okies, hows it going? hope everyones hens are laying up a storm. Weve had a bit of bad luck here to due to the weather. Got a tree down in the big chicken pen I have, uprooted last thursday. Missing shingles off the roof also fromt he same storm. Got to get the insurance company out here for that. Our nieghbors roof was totaled from the same storm last Thursday. At least we didnt lose any chickens, the tree that came down is the one my few guineas always roosted in but they where fine thankfuly.

Ronnie,

Sorry about your storm damage. I know how hard it is when your work to do things, then have to work to put them back together again. Sorry for your loss.

Ah, i was wanting to redue that pen anyways. It only tore up the fence so thats easy enough to replace. On a plus note, ive got 12 turken pullets and 2 cockerals in the brooder and 7 ducks i hatched out recently (turkens are from hatchery). Plus some mixed bantams and 2 pure barred rock bantams. Im praying one is a cockeral as my only roo up and died for no reason on me a ways back. This is the only time I can recall having to many hens and not enough roosters.

Is there anyone here in NE Ok that have any laying hens or POL hens they are willing to sell? Our coop is finally DONE and i don't want to mess with baby chicks right now and am looking to buy some hens this weekend (this is how we are celebrating our 15th anniversary, LOL)

In case anyone does, these are the kinds i am looking to buy: 2 barred rock, 2 welsummers, an australorp, a RIR, and a silkie

I would also like to get 1 either Welsummer or Salmon Faverolle rooster as well.

We are in the Skiatook area but are willing to travel this weekend to go get some hens. We might even drive out to Pryor and check out TSC, since we have never been to one.
