Okladoodle - sounds like your chicks may have cocci. Another thing it may be is enteritis. What medication are you using? Are the chicks thin, even though they've been eating?

Barnswallow - i've always heard turkey hens are feircely protective of their brood.

For anyone who has not made to the Flecther Auction....you're missing out! DW and I went last night, met several of the BYC Okies and had a blast.

On the way home, she admitted to understanding why I chat with the "chicken people" on line...

We did make an impulse buy...

We came home with a pair of Crele OEGB, and of course a cage...since we didn't go down looking to get anything, but DW wanted...DW got. I learned a long time ago to just say, "yes dear.." when it comes to things like that.

Now, she says that a chicken tractor for her apple orchard would be nice....

Thanks again to Doc, family and friends for making us feel real welcome!

It really was worth the 3 hour drive and wouldn't have missed it for the world

Cuban I'm not for sure which it is. I lost a few more last night. They weren't skinny,thats whats strange,they were eating good and everything till all at once. I have them on auremycin.The really good strong stuff. Some seem to be getting better and only had one really droopy acting this morning.

Just got back in from checking on the newest additions (OEGB)...and there is an egg!

We don't have a 'bator...do these breeds go broody and hatch their own? What size of nest box do I need to make? Also, we bought them as a pair, can I add 2 hens?

Junebug, I love this, great job, you can use tin to cover for a solid cover by laying it up like shingles over lapping it and use some short selftapping metal screws or back up screws with wood blocks to not have the points sticking out on the inside. Great Job Sofar!!!!!! Lynn

Thanks for the info, I built a wooden box 9"x9" lined with straw and put pine shavings in the bottom...then gently added the new egg. Hen came over to investigare and started messing with the straw. I think it meets her approval. I was worried about the getting along...how many sq ft per bird do the bantams needs in the coop then and run?

On feeding, I've got a mix I throw out for guineas, that I gave them this morning, 1/3 flock crumbles (20% protein), 1/3 cracked corn, and 1/3 mixed scratch grains. Is this good for the OEGB's? should I add a small bowl of oyster shell for the hen? What do you feed?

Thanks for your help, 'just want to make sure we have healthy, happy birds...and maybe chicks sometime.

I feed my bantams the same as I feed my other chickens. What you fed her this morning will work fine. If she wont set the eggs for you then you can always ask someone in your area to hatch them if you hen doesnt go broody.

We were at the auction last night too.... I apologize for not introducing myself, I didnt realize we had an new Okies there.
