Hey Countyroad, you should be able to sell the Brabanter chicks really well. I just sold a pair of my Brabanters at the Harrah auction for $12 each! I'm happy!
Gerald & I really enjoyed the Harrah auction on Saturday night. The auction was great for me ... sold 45 easter chicks for only .30 & .35, but only paid .25 for them, so I was happy to get rid of them. I think I kept some really good chicks from the feed store ... for sure the naked neck pullet chicks I bought at the feed store were a good deal! I sold 5 spitzhauben chicks for for $5.75 each, Laying hens still went high ... over $10 each.
I got really, really, REALLY lucky on buying some marans eggs! I bought some cuckoo marans and golden salmon marans eggs for $3 a dozen! They were going for $18 a dozen the last auction there! I was shocked that I got them so cheap. Now, I have to find room in my incubator and hope the eggs aren't too old.
Oh, and I bought 5 bourbon red turkey eggs for $2.50 each. I hope they're fertile! And, I bought 3 young buff orpington roosters for $1 each. The parent birds sold before them, and they were the size of Jersey Giants! They had to be over 10 pounds each. Also,I bought 2 of Lisa's cages. Gerald bought 2 metal ammo cans & a wood cutting tool, so he's way happy!
We met some more BYC okies there ... okiechick was there, and kaacres, and Lisa that said she joined a while back but I couldn't remember her username. It was nice talking to everyone! Oh and I saw Jimd there with his sons, but I never had a chance to talk to him.
Jimd, did you buy the Welsummers eggs???? You surely bought something there!
Oh, I'd love to go to the Chupps auction, but the Cement auction is next Saturday, and it's only a 30 minute drive for me. Maybe next month we can try Chupps. Are they always on the first Saturday of the month?
We'll for sure go to the Oklahoma Chickenstock, whenever it occurs. I hear it may be in Poteau.
Oh, and I just got an email today from a guy I mailed 18 jersey giant eggs to ... he said they just hatched ... 17 chicks and half are black, & the rest are blue with a few splash. It's so wonderful to hear from people with good hatches that got eggs from me ... especially when they're mailed across the country.
Oh, and we met a guy that says he hatches over 6000 eggs each year. He sells day old turkey poults for $6 each ... he buys all the turkey eggs he can at the auction and incubates them. He sells all kinds of baby chicks. It was cool talking to him ... I may need to call him & ask to put me on his list for Bourban Red turkeys.
Oh, and my 15 turkey eggs I bought on
ebay are a disappointment. I thought 10 were still fertile, but I checked again, and 5 more were clear. I have only 2 that hatched, one that tried & died (not fully formed) and 3 that are still in the incubator with no pipping at all. I'm sad! I've got another 11 due next week, so I hope to have better luck next week.
And I found out about another chicken website ... but I don't want to mention it here ... don't want to be banned from the forum.
Well gotta go ... I'm exhausted from having so much fun today!
