Buckguy, I was hoping to see you at the Harrah auction. I was going to bring some of my mystery chicks in to see if you could identify them. Oh, and I sure wish I had a hen you'd be interested in trading your jersey for. I've only got marans chicks hatching from eggs I've bought thru the mail & probably won't want to part with any of the pullet chicks ... the rooster chicks are a different story ... trade ya 2 marans rooster chicks for the jersey hen, lol!

Everyone ... I hope I see lots of Okies at the Harrah auction on Saturday night. I'll be bringing in many dyed Easter chicks to sell. I just can't keep them all! lol

Okiechick and/or Jimd, I could bring some 4 week old Spitzhauben chicks, if you're interested ???? If not, I might put some in the auction just to see what they'll sell for.

I'll probably bring a cream Brabanter pair to sell in the auction. I have too many roosters, so I need to sell a pair or 2 because all my hens are missing feathers on their backs now. Extremely fertile hatching eggs though!

I'll be putting more call duck eggs in the auction, too.

Gosh I hope I don't buy more chickens at the auction!

Oooooh, I've got baby chicks hatching! Golden Lackenvelder, Speckled Sussex, Black Austrolorp, Black Langshan & some Narragansett turkeys too! Woohoo! They aren't even due to hatch until tomorrow night.

Buckguy,

Chupps is having an estate auction tomorrow. No birds that I saw.
Carla, Don't bring anything for me. The boys didn't really like the spitz's. They were too skittish for them. I traded them for another silkie for my son. So far he's gotten about 20 eggs, all infertile

We've cahnged roo's around a it, so things should change.

Sooooooo...after raising our hens from babies from the two Dominiques that survived the neighbor's dog last year (killed over 100 birds and neighbor acted like no big deal:(, we have a varmint that has killed three in a week:(. We only had 9 hens and a rooster (along with the pair of India Blue and Black-shouldered peafowl - thank God they didn't get them! and the three lavender guineas), so now we are down to 6 hens. Those little gals were giving their all - 9 hens, 9 eggs:D

I've been on patrol since. Night before last, I killed a possum. Last night, I killed a raccoon. I know possums eat chickens and eggs, but will a raccoon also kill birds? I have a trap, too and caught our cat:lol:

So, anyone have any Dominiques for sale? I just love those birds - stately and quite the layers (of course our birds - like everything else we own) are spoiled and get hand-picked grass, bread, corn-bread, and other kitchen 'goodies'. Maybe I can talk hubby into going to Harrah (about an 1 1/2 drive).

I'm so disappointed in those critters! I know that where there is one possum, there's two, so I'm not outta the woods yet. KB

GoldRose, I'm not sure if the Harrah auction takes checks ... they probably do, since they take credit cards. You could call them to find out. I think they still operate as a Harrah Lumber. So sorry to hear about your birds being killed. You might want to get a big, overprotective dog that will guard them. I have a german shepherd and an australian shepherd that kill all possums, rats, armadillos, racoons & beavers that get in our yard. Unfortunately, they will kill my birds if they get out of their pens & we aren't looking. They know better though! When these boys die of old age though, we intend to get a great pyrenese. I hear they are excellent with poultry & livestock.

Yes, racoons will kill chickens ... and so will skunks. Skunks have definitely been on our property, but my dogs refuse to kill & bring them up to show us, lol

They have been close enough to get some of their perfume though

GoldRose, I'm so sorry about your birds.

Dogs and chickens caused a BIG uproar in my neighborhood this summer, and we live in the country. And none of them were even mine!

Grace, the ducker's been outide with the two chicks and they all seem happy as can be. While I was setting up their heat lamp the entrance came unlatched; I turned around just in time to see the three of them running across the yard. And man those little legs are fast!

Is anyone planning on going to the Cement auction next Saturday? That is the day after we close on the house. I'm hoping I can talk Clark into taking a break and go with me. I've gotta sell this Blue Cochin chick, I can already tell he's going to be a handful.

I got 7 chicks out of my batch of 10: 2 Buff Orps, 2 Dark Brahmas, and 3 of Carla's Brabanters. And the Brabanters have cute puffy faces! If anyone is interested in the other chicks let me know.

I am also selling the eggs that my Silkie hen is laying(she's got roos, but they aren't Silkies). $8 total for 6 plus any extas I get before shipping time. And of course if you want to pick them up from me or at Cement, pricing will be different.

Hey Countyroad, you should be able to sell the Brabanter chicks really well. I just sold a pair of my Brabanters at the Harrah auction for $12 each! I'm happy!

Gerald & I really enjoyed the Harrah auction on Saturday night. The auction was great for me ... sold 45 easter chicks for only .30 & .35, but only paid .25 for them, so I was happy to get rid of them. I think I kept some really good chicks from the feed store ... for sure the naked neck pullet chicks I bought at the feed store were a good deal! I sold 5 spitzhauben chicks for for $5.75 each, Laying hens still went high ... over $10 each.

I got really, really, REALLY lucky on buying some marans eggs! I bought some cuckoo marans and golden salmon marans eggs for $3 a dozen! They were going for $18 a dozen the last auction there! I was shocked that I got them so cheap. Now, I have to find room in my incubator and hope the eggs aren't too old.

Oh, and I bought 5 bourbon red turkey eggs for $2.50 each. I hope they're fertile! And, I bought 3 young buff orpington roosters for $1 each. The parent birds sold before them, and they were the size of Jersey Giants! They had to be over 10 pounds each. Also,I bought 2 of Lisa's cages. Gerald bought 2 metal ammo cans & a wood cutting tool, so he's way happy!

We met some more BYC okies there ... okiechick was there, and kaacres, and Lisa that said she joined a while back but I couldn't remember her username. It was nice talking to everyone! Oh and I saw Jimd there with his sons, but I never had a chance to talk to him.

Jimd, did you buy the Welsummers eggs???? You surely bought something there!

Oh, I'd love to go to the Chupps auction, but the Cement auction is next Saturday, and it's only a 30 minute drive for me. Maybe next month we can try Chupps. Are they always on the first Saturday of the month?

We'll for sure go to the Oklahoma Chickenstock, whenever it occurs. I hear it may be in Poteau.

Oh, and I just got an email today from a guy I mailed 18 jersey giant eggs to ... he said they just hatched ... 17 chicks and half are black, & the rest are blue with a few splash. It's so wonderful to hear from people with good hatches that got eggs from me ... especially when they're mailed across the country.

Oh, and we met a guy that says he hatches over 6000 eggs each year. He sells day old turkey poults for $6 each ... he buys all the turkey eggs he can at the auction and incubates them. He sells all kinds of baby chicks. It was cool talking to him ... I may need to call him & ask to put me on his list for Bourban Red turkeys.

Oh, and my 15 turkey eggs I bought on ebay are a disappointment. I thought 10 were still fertile, but I checked again, and 5 more were clear. I have only 2 that hatched, one that tried & died (not fully formed) and 3 that are still in the incubator with no pipping at all. I'm sad! I've got another 11 due next week, so I hope to have better luck next week.

And I found out about another chicken website ... but I don't want to mention it here ... don't want to be banned from the forum.

Well gotta go ... I'm exhausted from having so much fun today!

Carla

Oh yes, I snagged them eggs. Not sue who the gal sitting beside you was, but she wasn't about to let me have them golden laced polish! I've never seen day old birds go to $4 each, but I really wanted them.

I snagged the pair of birds that were sold as "chickens". As I suspected, they look an awful lot like welsummers to me

So..... How many eggs did YOU buy?????
