Let's see. January was the last time I logged in! Life moves at a pace way too fast. Especially when you have 4 sons!
I got online in the "chicken" mood because for once I have nothing scheduled tomorrow. Not sure how that happened? I just slumming for a bird auction/show/swap. I see one listed in Chouteau, but it looks really small. I may shoot out there anyway.

Finally managed to stop the loos of birds to the Bobcat. 7' fence, and about a dozen other tactics later. Honestly, I think he just moved on. So I want to get some nice birds again. I really liked my buff laced polish, and the boys want silkies again. I guess I'll see what's out there. Nothing special on craigslist locally.

I'm west of Tulsa at Lake keystone and raise nice silkies. I have only a few babes and maybe a few adults right now, because I'm mostly down to my really good quality young birds I don't want to sell until they mature. PM me if you'd like details. Carla also raises silkies.

I just thought I'd update ya'll....HE IS HOME!

Sorry for hijacking, but I am so stinkin' happy and excited and grateful!

Three-day-old Uno finally has a brother/sister. Dos hatched maybe two hours ago and is ANOTHER BEARDED LAVENDER SHOWGIRL! I'm really, really excited now! Dos also has a high vaulted skull and perfect toes. Uno has two slightly fused toes. Moms are brooding ive more possibles. I expected the rest to be black since all three young adults are black. However, at least two and maybe all three are split to lavender.

Just got home from the Alex auction. It is a well run auction and I bought Americauna chicks and six red sex link hens. It was not my intention to buy any adult birds, but for $4.25 - why not? Keets were a good price also, but I have not had good luck raising keets purchased young at auctions. After the auction ended, Doc shared the secret - feed them game bird starter when they reach about 2 weeks, instead of chick starter. NOW I learn the secret!
I started buying game bird starter a few weeks ago for the ducklings and have been pleased with its good results for the baby pheasants as well. If I ever get any keets to hatch, I will feed it to them also.

My order from Eggcartons.com arrived today - 100 Jumbo "misprinted" egg cartons for $21.99 and no shipping or tax.

Now that I have seen them, I really wish that I had ordered 200 of the jumbo misprinted cardboard cartons for $29.95. At that price, the jumbo cartons are actually cheaper than the regular size when you buy 200 and the eggs my hens normally lay can always be placed in a carton that is a little too big. I decided on the jumbo cartons this time because duck eggs and turkey eggs don't fit well into chicken egg cartons. I also decided that misprinted cartons would be fine, since otherwise I am re-using cartons given to me by multiple folks and they are of all different styles and markings.

Since the free shipping deal ends July 18, I have time to place another order :cool They also have the thermometer wafers for the incubators for sale at about $7 each.... and free shipping regardless of the size of the order. Just type in the word "Freedom" in the coupon code box. I may decide to order some more leg bands as well, now that I have seen the actual size. I have yet to figure out the right size for teenage large fowl chickens.

Odd thing happened tonight. I had 2 dead chick/chickens (they're feathered out and 7wks old) in the coop, and all the others were scattered all around the enclosed run. No signs of a predator break in. The fencing and overhead netting looks pristine. What could/would kill 2 and leave the rest scattered?

I usually feed game bird starter. Its a little more expensive than the the chick starter but worth it in the long run.
I am pretty sure I am going to Blanchard. I need to sell a few birds. I have several "Joseph's coat" EE cockerals. I will probably take some adult birds too.
