Hey Okiehen theres one in leflore county, In monroe just outside of poteau, between Poteau and Howe, right on the Ok/Ark boarder. Its every 2 weeks and the last auction was on 4/4/08. I just went for the first time and got alot of good stuff. Lets see I bought a meran hen to go with my cock, a chinese goose( well I bought the cage and the goose come with it) all for 7.00 and I got a small chickentractor with a coopnest and run for 20.00, and a brand new in the box working brooder lamp for 2.50, and a small hauling type cage for 5.00. So, 2 cages, a tractor, brooder lamp, 1 goose, and 1 hen for all for $40.00, + some free eggs, cuz the hens that where in the cages I bought had laid eggs during the sell and nobody grabed them, so I got them with the cages for free. I thought I did pretty darn good. You and me outta hook up and go togather, me and my BFF's make it a ladys night and all go out the auction to either buy or sell, but either way we have fun doing it.

Goldrose, I wish I had know you were sitting behind us at the Cement Auction. Yes we had some silkie chicks there, along with some Brabanter chicks ... Kaacres bought them all! I have more though! Should have a few dozen Sptizhauben and Brabanter chicks hatching this week, too. I even have silkie chicks that hatched over the weekend. I know what you mean about not knowing everyone's names. Well, you can probably guess mine though! and Gerald is my sweetie. Gracefulbantams has a link for JCPotter on the bottom of page 105 of this thread and she said the Blue auction is just down the road from the sausage company, and is the first & third Tuesday of the month, starting at 7:00 pm I think.

Mawchickkidie, I would sure love to go to that Monroe auction & get some deals like you did! It is sure far away from Tuttle, though. Maybe I could talk Gerald into another road trip soon!

When's their next auction and what time does it start?

Everyone, I just talked to a guy that has free peacocks ... he listed them on craigslist and I emailed him & he called back. He said they are living wild at his place that he bought & he's going to trap them because he doesn't want them. I told him I'd like to keep a few & see if anyone else wants some. First he has to trap them though! Anybody interested in some? I told him I'd take all he could catch. He thinks there's about 9 of them. Who wants some peacocks? OK, yes I'm crazy ... maybe I'd better change my name here to crazycarla!

Hey Chickenhead, those cuckoo marans are beautiful!

Some peacocks would be great. I currently have two pairs of black shouldered peacocks and they sound like geese, rather than the "screaming woman" I had heard other varieties sound like.

OKCarla, If you decide to go get them, I have two cages that would accomodate their tail feathers hanging out, so they don't get damaged. You are welcome to use them.

poultryand bees, that would be great! When this guy calls back, I'll tell him we have cages to use. He was saying he would wrap them up in blankets & I could just bring his blankets back. But, I'm sure cages would be good. I have a few metal large dog cages too. And if we need to, I have a 5 X 10 trailer we can use to pick them all up in. I just don't want any to get hurt. I'm afraid he'll destroy them, like he said in the ad. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/pet/632816148.html

I
think I'd like to keep the white male & the light colored hen he told me about, and I have a big empty greenhouse with wire on it I could put them in, and possibly let them out eventually. I only remember peacocks at the zoo and I think it's really cool how those male called ... it sounds like a women screaming HELP!

I didn't ask this guy if his make that noise. Awwh, it can't be any worse than the guineas!

I have a mystery for ya'll.

While at the Afton swap, I watched a lady pick up a trio of Polish. When she did, and egg rolled out. She handed it to the original owner who asked her if she wanted it since it came from her birds. She said no, and walked off. My wife asked if we could have it, so it came home with some adult polish birds.

Well.... its 20 days later and guess what? It aint no polish!
The egg was a bit larger than the ones my polish layed, and now that it's hatched, the bird is bigger too.

This bird has a definate "lump" on his head. Not feathers, but a fleshy lump. Pale in color, almost yellow. He just hatched a couple of hours ago, so I don't want to drag him out to photograph for a day or so.

I searched feathersite for pics and can't find anything matching him. Chicken-like beak and feat. We half expected webbed feet and flat bill.
Any ideas??????

Mawchickkidie, you got a great deal at Monroe.
I'll have to try to get down there. What time does it start and when is the next one.
If I bring my young roos to sell who do I talk to ect.

100. on that dog kennel is a great deal wish it was closer.

have a great day

okhen and Okcarla the sell starts at 6:00pm they start off selling all the junk stuff you garage sell type stuff them, they move to the goats and pigs if any, then the eggs, and small garage sale type stuff, you know like incubators, brooder lamps, eggs turners, movies, knick-knacks type stuff then the chicks, then they move on to the chickens and all related. It was so much fun. My and my freind really enjoyed ourselves. So ya'll need to come on down. And if would like a peacock too. How far are you from poteau?

Mawchickkidie

ehurt, the guy hasn't called me back yet on the peacocks, but please make sure Norman will allow you to have peacocks. They are also considered a fowl (peafowl) and they are quite large. I'll definitely share these birds, if they come through. the man may change his mind, or he may never actually catch any. Time will tell.

poultryand bees is first on the list for free peacocks, and if there's any left, I can bring one to Monroe auction if we ever go & give it to Mawchickkidie.

Mawchickkidie, we actually live about 2 1/2 hours away from Poteau (Tuttle is SW of Oklahoma City), but we love a road trip. We just need to see about taking off work, because we work second shift at Tinker AFB. When are the next couple of Monroe auctions?

Allison, welcome

Carla, about your Call Duck eggs selling for only $5 a dozen, I know that at our auction you can set a 'minimum bid' price, maybe you could try that?
The next auction is not tomorrow, but the next Tuesday (the 15).
"Rather gamble on winning at a poultry auction" - my thoughts exactly

!
Yeah, 2hrs isn't all that bad.

Poultryand bees, congratz on the new birds and eggs! I hope the SJF hatch for you

GoldRose, The auction in Blue is not exactly down a road - just a driveway. I am pretty sure the "directions" I gave would be enough to find it, though. If you (or any of you Okies on the BYC) decide to come, I can PM you our phone number, then you can call me if you get lost... or, better yet...we could maybe just meet at the parking lot of Walmart in Durant or some place then "caravan" out there!

Okiechick, please don't temp me with that 'bator!
