Monty, I'm glad you will talk to the auction owner. I think they definitely need to set some better ground rules and increase security. Yes ... I was thinking I might need to call 911 there after the wellsummers eggs fiasco.

Take care! It's time for me to get some rest too ... I may be too tired to fall asleep now!

boy... sounds like you need to bring the boxing gloves to that auction.

Well, ok I look forward to meeting Ya'll on friday. the sale starts at 6:00pm, I went down to the poorboy auction on friday morning on the way to work to sell what everyone was selling in the lot and ended up buying a mille Fl, pair of OEGBs and taking them to work.

on friday mornings people sell stuff in the parking lot at that auction, chickens, dogs, fishing stuff, feed, fruits & veggs, etc..... almost like a farmers market until noon when the goats and pigs and sheeps start going through the barn ring. Well I am going to sell some roos this friday, for my mom-in-law I think she has about 20 to many and I am selling my buff lace polish roo, and a mutt mix, and some guineas, which I hate to sell but they keep tearing out the tail feathers of my roosters and when the Roos get to fighting the guineas join in and tear the chickens up so i decided they finally have to go.

Hi ya'll.....I just thought I would introduce my self. I am Johnny from Spiro Oklahoma. I am 32 years old and have had some kind of chickens all my life. I am sure I know a lot of you guys from around the chicken sales in eastern Oklahoma. I will be at the first annual Chicken Stock.

Looks like a great site.....

To all OKIES in the BYC...
I made a terrible mistake today and don't want anyone else to do the same, so here it goes.
If you see the ad in the classified section for Superior Farms open house, only go if you have avery strong stomach! We went and all animals were packed into cages at over capacity dead birds in them from being trompled and no food in most cages and no water in any that we saw. A guy asked if he could help us and took us to where the babies were, in very small, stacked cages. All of them had waterers but all were empty. All were severly overrun and some chicks were to tall to be in the short cages and are now spraddle legged and missing any fethers on their shoulders. The floor (which was concrete) was covered with dead chicks that (I guess) had fallen out of the tall cages and been smashed from people going in and out.
I have images in my brain that I may never get out! I just don't want anyone else to go there unprepared. If this is what it looks like for an open house I do not want to imagine what it looks like when they are not expecting people to come in.

We did buy 5 barred rocks to get them out of the cages they were in. They have no feathers on the top of their wings and are in pretty bad shape. I am not sure if they will even make it but atleast this way they have a chance. They will be secluded from any of my other birds and I have already started them on antibiotics.

Sorry if I offended anyone with descriptions or otherwise, just wanted to pass on the experience.

Too late, Kaacres! I seen the ad too and of course we went miles out of our way to go see, since the ad was so enticing!!

It was an eye opener to say the least. I didn't even see the baby chicks, just the barn with all the older ones and then seen the barn with the llamas, sheep and goats. I really didn't like how the dogs were kept in nasty runs in back.

I don't know that much about different breeds and was surprised the chickens were just all mixed together and I had no idea what was what. I didn't buy anything, I might of bought some sheep and a goat but no one seemed to want to help us, so we left.

Count your lucky stars on that! I think we are going to be heart broken over trying to save these babies. I think it is a lost cause but at least they are not getting run over and have a soft warm place to sleep and fresh water and feed whenever they want.

I sure am glad I didn't go to that open house today that Kaacres and Foghorn Leghorn went to. It sounds like they overdid it on the animals and things have gotten out of hand. It sure sounds like a sad situation and I feel sorry for the suffering going on there.

Mawchickkidie, where in Monroe is the auction site? Gerald and I look forward to meeting you on Friday! I may bring some of my chicks to the auction, depending on the weather mostly. Do you have to check things in a certain time before the auction begins?

GracefulBantams, we will definitely be at the Blue Auction on Tuesday night! We have the silkies and d'uccles to bring you! Do you have any mille fleur eggs for sale? Those chicks sure are cute!

Today, we took the incubator we bought at Harrah back to the seller, because the auto-turner wasn't working ... and we thought it was broken. It turns out, that the tray that was in the bottom of the incubator wasn't supposed to be in there, and when the incubator was turned on at the auction, and the trays rotated ... they jammed the bottom tray and caused the turner motor to shut off (thankfully not ruining the motor). Anyway, the seller noticed that immediately and was able to get the trays removed, and all is working well now! Oh, and we bought a huge old 5 tier brooder from him and some smaller brooders and feeders & waterers. We have to get our trailer over there to pick everything up on Tuesday. There's no way we could fit everything in the pickup. Now I really will be able to feed my addiction .... OK really, I need to cut back, but it's nice to know I have a back-up incubator and lots of space for the chicks to grow up healthy and happy! I don't want to get anything like Superior Farms!

I finally got a tractor today! Problem is, I have no implements to go on it. Just curious if any of you fellow okies have any old implements laying around you might want to get rid of. I am looking for pretty much anything to go on a tractor. Brush hog, box blade, plow, disc, anything. Let me know.

YEP........sounds like some things I have seen happen there.....they need to learn a new method on the auction floor.........I am giving them the benefit of doubt still.but everytime I go.there is something amiss.........and wonder if it is worth going with all that?
