why cochins- hmmmm.... docile, my snowball will follow me around the house- still can't get her to keep a diaper on! the cochin roo from cuban is a riot- he and barny the brahma roo have stare downs- he is a tiger in a little body- won't let the girls out of the coop if its windy

i have 2 standard cochin pullets- going through their teenage hood, so they won't be friendly really till they start laying, but they are so darn pretty with those fluffy butts and boots! one will chase down pigeons- not sure what she would do with them if she caught one- they are great stress relief- the only ones i like better are silkies...

hey, did you guys ever have a brahma hen that bites if you pick her up? i've had one of mine do that- she is a wild girl- eyes are almost totally black- weird girl

Hey look ya'll - Monty needs a cat!

Careful - I LOVE my chickens and my dog is a wonderful, smart and loyal companion but ...... I'll go ahead and say it ..... CATS RULE!

The cat lives next door. It got into 1pen and got my red bantam frizzled cochin hen, this new cochin, and a couple of others/ I have chased it out of the big pen before. So now it is time to take charge!

I do like cats but not when they kill my chickens!

I am certainly familiar with the concept of getting stressed gradually, like a frog will sit in water as it gradally gets warmer until it dies - but would jump out of boiling water if it hadn't been getting warm gradually. Just never heard the term "boiling a frog" before. I like it.

Sometimes caregivers don't fully appreciate how much stress they are feeling, because the situation deteriorates over time and they adjust to each new level gradually - but if they had to begin with full time caregiving and all it entails, they wouldn't be able to cope.

Sorry to hear you are under the weather. So a cat was driving by your fenceline? Gotta love typos. Mine usually get me in trouble. Typos not cats, I don't own any cats.
I have not had much trouble with regular cats but the bigger ones named Bob have done some damage.
Don't know why they go after the buff ones, maybe because they already have that golden roasted color.
Michael told me he might have a rooster for you but I stiil don't know what kind you are wanting.

Hey look ya'll - Monty needs a cat!

We need to be careful about entrusting a cat to Monty. I seem to recall that he likes cats - with gravy.

I plan to get some of those too, eventually!

I heard that video on youtube a few weeks ago, it was INSANE!!!!!!!! It would be perfect for those that have bad neighbors that can't legally do anything about your chickens!!! (insert evil laugh)

I adore the breed, and I know one of the top breeders of them in the US.

so, when I'm ready, I'll be getting the best available.

Heard a religious talk years ago when I was a child and the boiling the frog was used as an illustration for some point he was making that I have long since forgot, but never forgot the illustration and have used the term ever since. It is soooo appropriate for so many settings.

The boiled frog lesson has many applications - from the way we get callused to hearing off color language or jokes until we no longer remember that we shouldn't be listening/talking like that - to the way we can become so accustomed to acquiring chickens at every opportunity - we no longer see any need for restraint (oops! I think I just quit preaching and went to meddling )
