Yes and the theory is that although any increase in Vitamin D through feed may not help unless accompanied by natural sunlight and heat from the sun on their backs. The natural heat on their backs is from what I have been told is critical in kicking in the fertility.

What about using those vitamin lights that are typically for reptiles and some avians in conjunction with white light heat lamps?

Something easier to clean than a fish tank. A clear plastic tote maybe that can be taken out & hosed out when needed.

Just a thought, that using the UVB bulbs would stimulate the vitamin D synthesis and the regular heat lamps would provide the heat on their backs in the event that the UVB bulbs didn't give off enough heat (plus they are not cheap!).
