Yes, we went to Cement on Saturday, and Luvzmybabz was there too!
The Cement auction wasn't so wonderful this month to sell at. We took some eggs, chicks, juvenile birds, and even some of my breeder spitzhauben and brabanter chickens, along with all my call ducks. The hatching eggs I had sold for as low as $2 a dozen, my juvenile birds went as low as $2 each, and my spitzhauben roosters sold for $1.50 each. My call ducks and spitzhauben hens sold for $7 each. There just wasn't a big crowd of buyers this time, and it was mostly other sellers buying things ... for a steal! I decided not to PO anything, even though I should have. The only things we bought were a couple of cages and some araucana chicks for .65 cents each, which some chicks died ... even though we brought them right home and gave them water with Blue Ribbon poultry supplement powder with electrolytes and other nutrients in it. I guess the heat & stress was too much for them.
They tried improving the Cement auction by fencing off the area where the birds are, so that none of the birds & cages are removed without a receipt, but by the end of the auction, people were everywhere, and of course, some things disappeared. When we were waiting to collect our empty cages, we found out that a buyer that bought & paid for a pair of my birds found the cage empty, with their buyer number clearly on the tag. They were quite unhappy. Luckily they didn't pay much for the pair, but still ... it shouldn't have happened.
Oh, and rabbits were selling as low as $2 each there too ... some dutch, some white, and some mixed looking bunnies ... none that were breeder age, that I could see.
It sounds like we should have gone to the Harrah auction instead, but we still enjoyed the experience, and got to visit with Luvzmybabz and other chicken addicted people!
