Humm.. you have given me something to think about... I'm just worried that they wont survive the an Oklahoma winter, the one Cochin and One bantam I have now refuse to use the ramp for their coop and every night I worry they are going to Freeze to death! I just could not bear to loose anymore chickens!

Do your baties do alright in the winter??
Thanks!

I have cochins and they are quite cold hardy - all those feathers. I have a couple that insist on sleeping on top of the coop every night. They only stayed in at night during the snow storm! The heat is more of a problem - they need shade in the summer.

and funny flowered hat's to wear when they are scratching for treats, it's all the rage in the run ya know heheheheheh. Sorry MJ I couldn't resist lol.

Hey Carah : Whattcha know................ got yer chores done ?? set a spell and relax will ya.

old cowboy do the asil get their "thick" look as they get older. I am bring Teach a young pair, not for sure which variety they are. They are very long legged and tall. But the roo is more slimmer looking in the neck and head than the one you pictured that is being shipped. I was just wondering if they "thickened " with age. Here is a pic taken when they a couple of months ago. They are bigger now and more mature looking .The hen is laying and I have several chicks from them. Also I wonder if the colors are sex linked. I am getting yellow chicks and chipmonk chicks! The yellows are getting dark wing feathers.

Thanks Sooner.

It was a great day to be outside. Had one water gap that was really plugged with dead cedar trees, logs and leaf litter. We had to use a come-along to get the biggest cedar tree out. Once we get the tree out, I'm trying to carry the chain in one hand and the come-along in the other across our little creek and step into a hole up to my thighs and loose my balance. I'm soaked and all BIL can say is "Did you get the come-along wet?"...of course he is grinning ear-to-ear!

okla doodle, there are a lot of different strains of asils, shamos, etc....depending on their origin, some are a little different in type...split_socket has probably half a dozen different strains, some are as broad as standard cornish in the shoulders, while others are very slim and graceful built...just different strains and bloodlines...

The picture I posted is of a stag only 11 months old. They should be a broad thick bird all the way from young up. But there are so many varities It is hard to say.

Now that I have had my BYC fix for the day, my cell phone battery is going down so I will check back in tomorrow. I expect to be home tomorrow. Thanks to all for prayers. I do expect a speedy recovery.
