My neighbor, Jack Cocoran, will have chicks in about 5 or 6 weeks.

Sweet! If he will sell some, I'd go get them

A nice neighbor just cleard our driveway of most of the snow with his brand new John Deere! Thought I'd be unable to get the car out for at least a couple of weeks with the temps we've been having and are expecting. We left Vashi's truck outside the gate so he'd be able to get to work when the roads are passable. Kept the car down in the carport with feed in the trunk in case we couldn't get to the feed shed.

Lost one very nice blue silkie hen; not sure exactly when. She's been broody in their coop awhile, and hadn't moved much in the last few days. She's in with two other hens and no roo, and stationed herself right by the feed dish. She was given to me over a year ago and had won several awards back East, but I have no idea how old she was. I've had to baby her, as her roo apparently broke an egg inside her soon afater I got her. Some of you may remember. With great advice from Les, I was able to get her over it, 'though it took nearly a year for her to absorb the large mass. She laid a few eggs after that, but ate them all right away, and most were soft shelled anyway.

So far, 16 of the 20 eggs I'm incubating for my friend have hatched. He was surprised at the four yesterday, as they'd gotten cold.

I ain't tradin' with you! I like to see stuff before it hits me! I inherited some great genes. Me and the middle sister like to compare pains...we both have arthritis issues about like my mom...infact...a Dr. (not sure how good of one) prescribed a hot tub for my sister. That might have been a little fishy but it worked out. Neither of us are as bad off as our dad...major reason I wanna get a little more weight off...my little brother and I compared aches...we both agreed it was lots easier to deal with the pain get a job done than to try to get up from a rest

Well we have good news

Our first ever poultry show here in Durant has been postponed until March 12th.
The ice/snow just won't quit and we had already had several call to say they couldn't make it.
I think it was a wise thing to do because not only was I worried about the safety of those driving in but also about the condition of the birds. They have already been through several days of stress and don't need any more.
Any way...thanks to all who signed up to show. We were pleased to have 500 birds entered since we only expected to have around 350. There is enough support in this area to sustain an annual show so we will probably keep it up.

There hasn't been much going on here since the last time I was on. Is anybody else running out of things to do? Im so looking forward to spring when I can start gardening again. Are there any gardeners here?

Peaches - I'm not sure how each county decides which roads to clear. Maybe a phone call to your local sheriff could prompt action to get your road plowed. At the very least, keep in contact with three or four people each day at regular intervals. If you had an accident and couldn't call, your absence would be noticed. Stay safe. Nobody is going to be bothered if you keep checking in.

Our place is 2 1/2 miles off pavement, and none of the gravel roads within a mile of our house have been cleared (we can't see past that). We've only seen one set of tire tracks going past our place, and we can only hope that whoever made the tracks made it to his/her destination. We haven't had any mail delivered since the storm hit, so it's clear the local post office considers driving these roads "not worth the risk."

poco- yep, we are pretty cut off from everything too- haven't heard anything from the road- so i am sure we aren't a hi priority- we still have water and the chickens haven't slowed down laying at all- so other than a stink eye regarding the cold, things are fine here
