Ok, when and where is this...Poteau is about 30 mins from me...I swear my job is going to laugh their heads off if its on the weekend and I have to ask off for it!
grace I am going to call them today and get the article in the mag. Hooligan it is on June 7th starts at 7:30 am. I know what you mean about people at work laughing, they thought I was joking when I said I was going to set this up and host it, till they saw the flyer this moring. Now whos laughing.
Are you going to enter the show? Hope you do we need more people.
So I WILL be there!
I need to read the entire thread to see what all is going on for it. Is it one day only?
I have another person that is wanting to go that I work with. His family has commercial chicken houses so he raises his in the woods behind their place. He was so excited when I told him
I don't have any SQ chickens so I don't think I will be entering anyone.
Can you send me the flyer? I can make copies and put them up around here.
Has anyone contacted Purina or Walmart for prizes and such. With WM having a 'farm' section they might donate...and Purina usually will donate coupons for free bags of food.
We could hit each Atwoods close to us but we need to agree on things to ask for or sponsorships.
In Poteau there is a commercial chicken supply store that might sponsor, and I think Bokoshee has a regualr shicken supply store. Also vets offices might go for it too.
What are all the contest catagories and the details fo each?
How do we go about getting 'papers' and typhoid tests for the chickens?
hooligan, you might check with your vet or one of the local 4-H clubs about a person who will do the typhoid testing, If you want to hit all the atwoods and the feed mills on that side that would be great. I would just tell them about the chickenstock and ask if they would like to be a sponser or donate something toward the prizes and such or even if they want to set up a booth for feed sample or such, atwoods could set up a booth for the credit card thing or something. My wal-mart doesn't really have a farm section, but if yours does you might ask them. I am going on Tuesday to check with some of the local feed stores round here and poteau and to get flyers printed up and check the prices on the t-shirts so if theres somewhere or something else ya'll could think of that I should stop and check out let me know. There is three contests so far anyways the Main Show, the costume chicken contest, and the Uglyest chicken contest. And we are going to have a chickendance contest, all ages can enter and dress up if you like, and you can have your chicken dance with you if you want. lol the 4-h kids were asking me if they could have there chickens dance with them.
Area vendors are welcome to come and sell crafts the booth rental fee is $15.00. and there is a discount if they want to donate money or something for the prizes the discount will be $5.00 off the rental fee. or more depending on how much or what they donate. And if don't matter if your chickens are not show Q. bring them anyway. I am going to pm you with somemore info.
Everyone I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see everyone there and don't for get that there will be a guest book for all the bycers to sign.
Ok, so are the chickens in costume or are people...bc I have this idea for some clothes for the chickens
Also, what size of cage can we bring, and it it okay to have a fan on it? I was thinking of bringing Bob (if we only had a fattest chicken contest) but he need to be cool all them time bc of his fatness
As soon as I get some flyers I will start hitting places here and if anyone donates 'stuff' I can drive down to Poteau and drop it off to you. There is a biz in Alma I GOTTA hit, they have sooo much chicken stuff! But it helps to have flyers so ppl don't think I'm just a crazy lady
And yes, I got laughed at yesterday when I filled out my request for time off at work. My supervisor told me chickens were stupid little creatures w/ brains the size of peas. She said it in jest but I gave her the info on how chickens are just as smart as toddlers (oh yes! there have been studies!) and if she knew the love of a chicken she would change her mind
Sounds great! I will get the flyers made ASAP, and the chickens in costumes, and no the size does not matter on the cage and yes you can bring a fan, I know I will. And you might want to bring some chairs, and you chicken some food and water dishes. sounds great looking forward to meeting you. and everyone else. Mawchickkidie
Hooligan - what place in Alma have I possibly been missing? Ya KNOW I gotta find the place (is it "Sisters" or "The Red Rooster"?).
If you're going to be putting up flyers in Alma then I'll consider it done but if there are only a few select places where you're posting here, please let me know and I'll plaster the rest of the town!!
