Old and Rare Breeds

No, you did not tell me!
See how you are !
How many pens do YOU have now?

I have four Delawares from speckledhen, and love them to death. 2-3 will be kept, and then more from another breeder (as Cyn is stopping with these, I think).

Well, I have had my breeding pens set up for a month now, but still no eggs...

I guess this is year 4? for me hatching Cubalayas. I am doing only single matings , I began trying that last year. I try one cock on the hens, then, after I hatch some from that pairing, I switch, so I can see exactly what a given cross will get me. Hopefully these old ladies of mine will start laying soon!!! My pullets have been laying very well for some time now, but, I am not using them this year. I envy all of you who already have chicks or even eggs!!!

Yeah, right................I have lost count. Thank goodness so many of them are young. When the weather gets better my son is going to be busy building more pens. Next year I will have more hatching eggs than I know what to do with. I have sure been having fun with the trades this year though.......LOL

have hatched some nice ones this spring: black australorps, cubalayas, and some heritage delaware chicks. i seem to be getting a few white sports from my cubalayas. will see if i can get some nice red pyles off them or just keep a white strain.

My middle son is getting Java eggs now. I think he's set around 20 so far.

My youngest son's Muscovies are laying now too, but nobody is setting yet. (They hatch their own).

Besides what I already mentioned:

Games: around 35 so far
Shamos: just started laying; my only hatching from one Manuel Reynolds female
Malgache: just started laying
Ga Cua: just started laying
Kulang Asil: just started laying

Incubator is near full (around 300 eggs). Collecting eggs every day.

I hope to be done setting by Easter...... maybe Ascension Day??????????
