Hi y'all! This is a club for chickens 5 and up. Post pictures and stories of your retired old chicken and just have fun!
Example of an old chicken: Henny Penny!

She is six year old buff orpington.
Her feathers are starting to curl so we call it her "old lady perm!"

Strange that her feathers are like that; do you think she will moult them out?

Here's my Ginger; she's 8 now, but I still get a little blue egg from her every now and then.

Her daughter Snowball, 6, lays almost daily at the moment.

We have around 60 birds of various ages, and once they've earned their name, they're here for life.
Ginger and Snowball are soo cute! Penny's curly feathers may molt out, I'm not sure. I'll see when she's done! (She is molting right now, she looks kind of silly!)

I also have Tito, a Lavender Araucana who's also 8. He, Ginger and Snowball are all that's left of my OG flock now. Tito is still top-dog and fathering chicks, even with 9 young chaps around.

Penny's feathers don't seem to be brittle, more soft than anything. I would try upping her protein intake whilst she's moulting; it could help her new set grow in a little stronger.

Tito is very handsome! Yes, I will give her more protein, she likes sunflower seeds and I'll give her some worms. She is obsessed with worms, haha.
