Received my first little chicks yesterday. Mille Fluer Old English Bantams. There was one chick that couldn't walk properly and the lady at the feed store said I didn't have to take him but I said I would and try to nurse him back to health.
His feet are curled inward and he walks on his hocks. I tried the band-aid hobble, that I read about on this forum, but he couldn't get around very good at all. I left it on about 12 hours then took it off. I don't think his legs are splayed, his feet just turn inward. He is eating and drinking ok. I have him isolated from the other chicks. I hope someone can give me some suggestions to help this little fellow make it.

could very well be a deficiency issue (if the parents are deficient the chick will be too) ...you can give some POLYVISOL 4 drops a day in beak for a week then taper off...tape his foot with toes in the correct positioning (place on a very strong tape or duct tape even) and then apply another piece of tape over that and press very strongly and trim to make a "shoe"... if you can possibly also get some Avia Charge 2000 (this is a complete poultry supplement and can be purchased through McMurray or Strombergs online) that would be even bettter as the POLYVISOL has no biotin ...

Thanks for the reply dlhunicorn. How would you remove the duct tape after the chicks feet straighten out?

just trim off and look perhaps for an air pocket or such...when it is exposed to water etc it will come loose with a bit of help eventually but it will help the toes grow into a normal positioning.....
