My cockerel is a sweetheart. My hens are REALLY sweet as well. I only have 1 pullet who is laying, so I can’t really talk much about egg production yet. I’ve heard they like to brood

He’s at least 8 months of age. I find their looks and personality to be the most interesting, funny and cute little bird with silly antics. I keep them because I love bantams, and these have been a joy.

I love bantams too and have had several breeds, but not the OEB. They seem to be quite popular, but perhaps because of showing.

I got them from my uncle, so mine are not to the SOP. Several others do/have shown them, and they’re pretty little birds

I don't show and would probably get mine from the hatchery, just to try them out. Breeders will tell you the temperament isn't the same with hatchery stock, and they are probably right. But prices are just too high for breeder stock to take a "test drive".

To breed them properly, you need to separate all the color varieties. And there are soooo many beautiful varieties! I had some lovely silver duckwing, then mixed in some other colors and messed up my stock. The only males I ever kept were beautiful full SDWs though.
The roosters liked to challenge other roosters thru the fence, but none of mine were ever aggressive, especially not with me. They were the best parents! The girls would fly up on my arm, always come running. They were my sweetest breed by far. I wished they were more popular here. I had a hard time rehoming all my extras.

I’m separating my 2 Lavenders (pullet & cockerel) as soon as she starts laying so I can have some more lavender OEGBs this spring

WVduckchick, like your avatar. Good to hear from another OEB lover. Experience is always a good teacher. Mixing colors and unwanted traits can bite you in the behind for years.
